When asked if she believed that Maya Lopez from Marvel Studios’ Echo will return for Season 2, director of photography Alaqua Cox said.
Like the majority of MCU Disney+ series, Echo was only expected to last for one season when it was initially announced. There has been no news on whether a continuation is even being considered since all five of the episodes appeared simultaneously on January 10.
Even when Maya will next appear on screen is unknown to fans.

In an exclusive conversation with The Direct, cinematographer Kira Kelly for Echo discussed her ideas for a potential second season of the show as well as her experiences working with the Daredevil cast from Netflix.
Kelly said she was “not sure” and that she would “love any excuse to see Alaqua [Cox] perform again” when asked if she thought Season 2 would be a suitable choice for Alaqua Cox’s next move as the character.
“I’m not sure about that. I feel like the world—You know, anything that we can see Alaqua [Cox] would be amazing. Whether it’s another season for her or whether or not she’s in the ‘Daredevil’ show coming up or any other show. I would just love any excuse to see Alaqua perform again.”
Can Fans Anticipate Season 2 of Echo?
It is probably not advisable for fans to expect another season of Echo. The show’s reaction was largely negative, and it’s unclear what will happen to its Disney+ initiatives in light of the recent changes at Marvel Studios.
As of right now, just one series has received a second season: Loki. Echo most likely wouldn’t be at the top of the list if it happened to someone else. Rather, viewers would probably witness more Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, or Hawkeye episodes.
After Daredevil: Born Again premieres, maybe Echo can move over.
In a recent piece, The Hollywood Reporter verified that Marvel Studios “is interested in doing more with the character and is already developing new ideas as it seeks to build out its street-level heroes.” Furthermore, the original Daredevil stunt coordinator has returned, marking the official start of the project.
That’s where Kingpin is going to end up, after all; his time in Echo set him hurtling down a perilous road where he will surely run into a number of street-level heroes. Bringing Maya back into the fold to support Matt Murdock and maybe others would be a fantastic opportunity.
Although the future of a potential Season 2 is still up in the air, making an appearance in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again may be a wise move. Ultimately, the program contributed to Maya Lopez’s connection to Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and his efforts.
Kelly talked about his one fight scene and recalled how “legit” it was to see Charlie Cox arrive on set to play Daredevil:
“We ended up shooting his scene, I think it was right at the end of the first block or the beginning of our third block… like we’d already shot a lot. And I was always a fan of the Netflix show. But it’s funny, like, there’s a moment when you see him walk on the set in the costume and everything. You’re just like, ‘Okay, this is legit. We’re doing this now.'”
“Awesome to watch him:” was how she put her point across.
“It was also awesome to watch him because, of course, he had a stunt performer. But, like, he really went out of his way to try to make sure he could do as many of the things and try it and was really physical about having himself play that character, even within the fight scenes. So yeah, that was fun. That whole thing was a really fun experience.”
She went on to describe how challenging it was to film the sequence and how their “incredible” second unit team was the only thing that could make it happen:
“I have to mention that with the Daredevil fight that we ended up doing. Like our second unit team was incredible… we went in, and we shot, you know, it’s a one-er, but of course, there are match quickly hidden edits. You know, it’s like we really had to leave a lot for them to be able to, you know, do to, so they just did an amazing job. So yeah, these jobs like this, like without having a second unit, would be crazy.”
In addition to Cox’s hero, Vincent D’Onofrio’s evil Kingpin commanded attention. Kelly attested that she found the actor’s portrayal of the role to be “amazing to watch.”
“Vincent is very different than Kingpin, obviously. Right?… [He] definitely is. But when he first walks into the set, he’s very, although he’s in the outfit and the suit and all this stuff, he’s still like, ‘Hey, how’s it going… Hi, everybody.’ Like, super, super nice, and great with the crew. But then, when it’s gone time, you hear the voice change, you hear the cadence of his voice change. And it’s Kingpin. It’s just kind of amazing to watch.”
“It’s just kind of seamless to see him go in and out of that [character],” she said, complimenting Alaqua Cox for going “toe-to-toe” with the renowned actor:
“It’s really sort of like, he has lived in that character, I think, for so long in such a great way that it’s just kind of seamless to see him go in and out of that [character]… Vincent is an incredible actor. And I think this is like a testament to how great Alaqua [Cox] was, like, they went toe-to-toe in all those like dinner scenes and really sort of like, flushing out their relationship. And it was just mesmerizing. I remember when in the beginning, when we first started shooting it, I was just like, ‘Wow, that’s a lot of, you know, table seats.’ We have to figure out different angles and cool ways to keep it interesting.”
She admitted to having seen “the first couple of seasons of [Daredevil],” when asked how familiar she was with the prior Netflix series.
“I think I’ve seen the first couple of seasons of [Daredevil]. But I’m a big, like, not nerd, but yeah, I love comics. I love comic shows. And so ‘Daredevil’ was, while it was coming out, something that I watched. And then when Sydney [Freeland] brought up the fact of doing the one-er, we obviously watched that hallway fight they did… which was amazing. And then we watched so many other ones like Atomic Blonde’s one-er, which is amazing. There’s a great one from ‘Hanna’.”
The Direct then inquired as to whether the actors and crew of the next Daredevil program were concerned about Echo’s emphasis on Matt Murdock and Kingpin being canonical given the show’s predecessor.
The director said that there wasn’t a formal directive about Daredevil’s canon position on set:
“Not really. I mean, we didn’t really–there wasn’t a, at least, that ever came down to me. There was never a thing like the Netflix ‘Daredevil’ and all that stuff is canon. But maybe afterward [they] ended up working and fitting it in, but that wasn’t a focus of our shooting.”
Disney+ and Hulu now provide free viewing for every episode of Echo.
Will Echo be an Avenger?
Lopez Echo, Maya. First used for revenge in Hell’s Kitchen, later as a New Avenger, the deaf Cheyenne-Latin American fighter Echo employs her photographic reflexes.
Is Echo Marvel good or bad?
Overall, Echo is doing well. Even though the first three episodes are a little sluggish for a show with just five episodes, I still found them to be enjoyable. Tonight marks the release of all five episodes, which seems like a poor choice because it leaves the series with too little time to generate anticipation.
Is Echo a villain or hero?
Given the events of Hawkeye, where viewers are introduced to Maya, she is primarily introduced as a villain at the beginning of the series. In addition, director and executive producer Sydney Freeland notes to Marvel.com that “the goal was never to turn her from a villain to a hero” in addition to Maya’s increasing number of bodies in Echo.
Does Echo become a hero?
Because Echo is rated TV-MA, she is free to explore her darker side rather than constantly playing the perfect hero. She does get superpowers, but she doesn’t always behave like a heroic figure. She commits crimes, consistently declines to assist others, and has even attempted suicide.
