One of the most anticipated MCU films is Born Again. Ever since the first Netflix series was cancelled in 2018, fans have been clamouring for a series continuation.
In addition to having 18 episodes, the Disney+ series will feature full-time returns for both Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin and Charlie Cox‘s Matt Murdock. Yet, they won’t be alone.
Recently, it was revealed that Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, who had an intriguing interaction with “Red” back in Daredevil Season 2, would return in the Disney+ project.
It didn’t take long for Bernthal to post a picture on Instagram with no caption to express his excitement about the news.
A Significant Role for the Punisher in Born Again
The star of Daredevil: Born Again, Vincent D’Onofrio, hinted at the Punisher, a beloved vigilante, in a recent interview with Newsweek.
Charlie Cox and Frank Castle, played by Jon Bernthal, will be“a major part of the [upcoming] show,” according to the celebrity.
In September 2022, business insider KC Walsh first alluded to Jon Bernthal’s significant comeback in a tweet. He said in the same tweet that Krysten Ritter, who was earlier believed to be appearing in Jessica Jones, had been replaced by the Punisher, filling the void left by her absence:
“I know I was in denial about this, but it sounds like another popular character will show up as well due to a scheduling conflict as it appears they will take the rumored role Jessica Jones had.”
These assertions were backed up by those on the Cape Times podcast, who also suggested that more titles from Netflix’s prior lineup would be forthcoming:
“Basically, Born Again is re-introducing the Netflix characters to the mainstream and they planned to bring in Ritter but there’s a scheduling problem for Born Again. So they needed another Netflix star to fill the role. It’s Jon Bernthal. Wouldn’t be shocked if Ritter cameos tho.”
Who else from the Netflix cast will be present, though?
Frank Castle will surely run into legal issues because he is the Punisher. Both he and Daredevil haven’t always seen eye-to-eye in their methods.
Perhaps Matt Murdock will even need to defend Castle in court. After all, the series is reported to feature an emphasis on the lawyering side of the titular character.
So who else from the Netflix roster will be showing up?
Foggy Nelson, played by Elden Henson, and Karen Page, played by Deborah Ann Woll, are reportedly not going to be in the next revival. Yet the right-hand woman of the Kingpin will return, although with a different actress.
Then there is Jessica Jones starring Krysten Ritter. Although her reappearance is hotly reported, it hasn’t been confirmed. She did, however, express her appreciation for Bernthal securing the role by commenting with a flame emoji on the actor’s happy Instagram post.
Both Finn Jones’ Iron Fist and Mike Colter‘s Luke Cage are currently off the table. Fans, though, are still holding out hope.
Disney+ is presently planning to air Daredevil: Born Again sometime in the spring of 2024.
