Tom Holland seems to be taking a break from acting after a successful run on both the big and small screens.
With Spider-Man: No Way Home’s record-breaking run at the end of 2021 and into 2022 still fresh in his mind, Holland is in the midst of an incredible run of success on the big screen.
This is only one of the more than a dozen projects he has worked on over the past five years. Highlights include Disney’s Onward and Sony Pictures’ Uncharted, which help Holland maintain his stardom outside of the Marvel universe of superheroes.
Tom Holland Retains His Acting Career
Superstar actor Tom Holland revealed in an interview with Extra TV that he will soon take a vacation from performing.
Holland talked on how working on The Crowded Room for Apple TV+ put a “extra level of pressure” on him, notably talking about “exploring certain emotions” he hadn’t dealt with before:
“Yeah, it was a tough time, for sure. We were exploring certain emotions that I have definitely never experienced before. And then on top of that, being a producer, dealing with the day-to-day problems that come with any film set, just added that extra level of pressure. But I really enjoyed it. I loved the learning curve of becoming a producer. I’m no stranger to hard work. I’ve always sort of lived by this idea that hard work is good work. “
He said that the show had kind of “broken” him, causing him to take a week off in Mexico. Due to the challenges of making the series, he later disclosed that he is “taking a year off” from acting, although he is nonetheless eager to see the results:
“But then again, the show did break me. There did come a time where I was sort of like, ‘I need to have a break.’ I disappeared. I went to Mexico for a week and had some time on a beach and lay low. And I’m now taking a year off, and that is a result of how difficult this show was… I am excited to see how it turns out and I feel like our hard work wasn’t in vain.”
Filming for The Crowded Room was finished in September 2022, but it’s not known exactly when Holland began his year-long vacation.
The director of Holland’s Fred Astaire biopic for Sony Pictures was found just a few months earlier, according to a February report in The Hollywood Reporter, suggesting that the actor would soon make a comeback with this film.
When Will Tom Holland Make a Film Comeback?
Tom Holland has joined fellow Marvel co-stars including Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor, Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool, and Spider-Man phenom Andrew Garfield in taking a sabbatical from acting in recent years.
It’s also not surprising to see Holland take a break and recover given how crazy busy he’s been the past several years, especially as his relationship with Spider-Man co-star Zendaya develops.
Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are already hard at work on Spider-Man 4, which will continue to progress once the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike ends, even if it’s still unclear when this year off will come to an end.
Holland is only 27 years old and has many more years ahead of him, so this break will undoubtedly help him regain his strength since he has a tonne of other films and TV series ahead of him.
