by One of the most prominent villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thanos, has claimed that James Cameron supports his ways.
Cameron recently released Avatar: The Way of Water, a film that has already brought in $95 million for him personally and more than $2.2 billion globally.

The discussion, however, took an unexpected turn when Cameron agreed with Thanos’ extreme viewpoints. For those who don’t recall, Josh Brolin‘s villain believed that eradicating half of the universe’s people would be the best thing for existence.
Cameron Supports the Mad Titan Thanos
James Cameron, the director of Avatar: The Way of Water, revealed an intriguing personal connection to Josh Brolin’s Thanos in an interview with Time. He also discussed the CGI work on his most recent movie.
According to Cameron, Thanos “had a pretty viable answer” to his issue at one point in their talk, which is similar to the filmmaker’s environmental activism:
“I can relate to Thanos… I thought he had a pretty viable answer. The problem is nobody is going to put up their hand to volunteer to be the half that has to go.”
Cameron praised Marvel Studios and other major VFX movies in a recent interview with Variety, saying that “the rising tide of technique raises everybody together:”
“Obviously the big comic book films have been driving the sheer volume of the industry… the rising tide of technique raises everybody together. It gives you higher quality artists, more tools and plug-ins and code [to use]. You’ve got more talented people writing code out there.”
Returning to the subject of Thanos, the filmmaker dismissed similarities between his CGI and their work on Avatar, claiming that Brolin’s antagonist “[isn’t] even close:”
“Our team at WETA Digital is constantly having new hires, and it’s coming out of that pool… “So it improves everything. That said, WETA Effects, as it’s called now, is the best. Right? Industrial Light & Magic does great work, but when it comes to the kind of emotive facial stuff that we’re doing… Thanos? Come on. Give me a break. You saw [‘Avatar: The Way of Water’]. It’s not even close. It’s what WETA did.”
promoting Thanos’ plan to eradicate humanity
The “Thanos was correct” movement is typically a joke, but it appears that Cameron has discovered some truth in it.
With his support for environmental and climate advocacy, his opinions shouldn’t come as a big surprise. After all, those are the foundations of his entire Avatar franchise.
On a galactic scale, however, genocide rarely occurs.
It’s hardly surprising that he believes his crew performed a better job than the MCU’s VFX team considering his movie received more than ten years of development time compared to most Marvel productions’ less than two.
James Cameron doesn’t appear to be leaving the Avatar series, so he won’t have to worry much about Marvel or the visual effects in their movie.
With a new fire tribe of Na’Vi appearing in the next third Avatar, the director will be able to showcase his technological prowess in a completely new way. Oona Chaplin, who is most known for playing Talisa Stark on Game of Thrones, will serve as the new group’s leader.
The threequel will sadly not be released until December 20, 2024. Avatar: The Way of Water is now playing in theatres, and fans can catch another showing of it in the interim.
