Spider-Man 4 release date speculation, cast, plot, and more news

The character picks up where many wall-crawling stories leave off, as Holland’s Peter Parker truly begins his adventure as the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, winning over viewers with his first MCU Spider-Man trilogy.

Fans can anticipate even more fun in the impending sequel to Spider-Man: No Way Home, director Tom Holland’s final web-slinging epic that blew the doors open for Spidey storytelling in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

So, here is all you need to know about Spider-Man 4 from the MCU.

When Does Spider-Man 4 Come Out?

Spider-Man 4: Release, Cast & Everything We Know

Spider-Man 4 hasn’t had an official release date announced as of yet, but it will soon.

The first indications of where the fourth installment of the wall-crawler series would be on the Sony Pictures and Marvel schedule were provided by a Deadline article from June 2023. For two undisclosed projects, Sony revealed dates for November 8, 2024, and June 27, 2025.

While Venom 3 is anticipated to release in November 2024, there is a good chance that Spider-Man 4 will hit theatres in June 2025.

Of course, with the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes causing havoc in Hollywood, all that could change.

Amy Pascal, a producer for Sony Pictures and the upcoming Spider-Man 4 film, commented on how the strikes may affect the production, asking, “Are we going to do another movie? Of course we are, but due to the labor disagreement, “nobody is working” on the project:

“Are we going to make another movie? Of course, we are. We’re in the process, but the writers strike, nobody is working during the strike. We’re all being supporters and whenever they get themselves together, we’ll get started.”

In response to a question regarding any particular details about the future sequel, Pascal added, “If I told you, I’d have to kill you.”

There is still a lot of work to be done before the Spider-Man sequel can be filmed, and it would not be shocking if it were to advance past that June 2025 release date with Tom Holland taking a brief acting break (which the actor said should not last too long) and Spider-Man 4’s lack of a director.

The movie has at least begun development, so things are moving along. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige hinted that they are “actively beginning to develop where the story goes next” in an interview with The New York Times.

“Yes, we’re actively beginning to develop where the story heads next, which I only say outright because I don’t want fans to go through any separation trauma like what happened after ‘Far From Home.’ That will not be occurring this time.”

The studio executive also mentioned that the film is currently being written, but that writing has been put on hold because of the strikes in Hollywood (via Entertainment Weekly).

For Spider-Man 4, will Tom Holland make a comeback?

After watching Spider-Man: No Way Home It wasn’t a given that Tom Holland would play Spider-Man in the MCU, but he has now been cast as the venerable wall-crawler.

According to reports, Tom Holland will not only participate in Spider-Man 4 but also in a brand-new MCU Spider-Man trilogy, as he continues to play a significant role in the super-powered series.

The first sign that the actor will return was a “New Tom Holland deal [was] comin’ right up,” according to several leakers in the autumn of 2022.

Since then, Holland has promoted Spider-Man 4 by claiming that it is “looking pretty good” and that “some stuff is going on” that he is “excited about.”

The Marvel actor went on to say that if he got to play Spider-Man for the rest of his life, he would be “the luckiest kid alive”:

“I feel like my agents and I have navigated the industry in a really good way over the last 10 years. But that said, if I just played Spider-Man for the rest of my life, I’d still be the luckiest kid alive. So there’s no complaints from me here.”

The cast of Spider-Man 4: Who Will Reappear?

Spider-Man 4’s casting information is scant, although there are a few actors whose appearances can be predicted.

The complete cast list for the Spider-Man sequel, including actors and characters, is as follows:

Tom Holland plays Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Naturally, a Spider-Man movie wouldn’t be complete without the real-life wall-crawler. Tom Holland will reportedly return in Spider-Man 4 as Peter Parker, who after Spider-Man: No Way Home erased himself from the thoughts of his loved ones (and the rest of the world), battles with a life of anonymity.

Zendaya – Michelle Jones/MJ

Although it is yet unknown if Zendaya’s Michelle Jones (also known as MJ) will appear in Spider-Man 4, her involvement seems quite plausible, if only for a check-in. After the events of No Way Home, Zendaya’s character MJ, played by Ned Leeds, is leaving for MIT with her companion after being made to forget her first love and superpowered boyfriend Peter Parker.

Jacob Batalon – Ned Leeds

Ned Leeds, who is portrayed by actor Jacob Batalon, joins MJ in her studies at MIT. Ned used to be Peter Parker’s closest buddy. Since the entire universe has forgotten who the Spider-Man from New York is, Ned has also forgotten his closest friend and the guy who gave him a Spidey-sized secret.

J.K. Simmons – J. Jonah Jameson

J.K. Simmons played the beloved Daily Bugle editor in Spider-Man: No Way Home as a full-fledged supporting character following his surprising comeback as J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Even though he might not remember who Spider-Man is, the obnoxious newsman will undoubtedly make a cameo in Spider-Man 4 to expose Spider-Man for the danger JJJ believes he is.

How Will Spider-Man 4 Play Out?

It seems increasingly likely that Spider-Man 4 will tone things down after becoming Multiversal in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Head of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige has touted the film as having a “street-level” plot similar to that of fellow Spidey comic Daredevil:

“The adventures of Eros and Pip is something very exciting for us. You talk about Ghost Rider, we’ve got Blade, we’ve got Doctor Strange, we’ve got the supernatural angles, we’ve got the street-level with our announcement of Daredevil, and of course, Spidey going into the street-level heroes. And cosmic, and that’s where our friends Eros and Pip live.”

According to Spider-Man: No Way Home producer Amy Pascal, this suggests a more intimate adventure for Holland’s web-slinger, one that emphasizes “quality and emotion” more than the grandeur of the Multiverse:

“You can’t think about topping yourself in terms of spectacle. Otherwise, movies just get larger and larger for no reason, and it’s not a good result. But we do want to always try and top ourselves in terms of quality and emotion.”

This will probably have Tom Holland’s college-age Spider-Man assuming the iconic Spider-Man role of living alone and juggling his dual roles as Peter Parker and New York’s web-headed hero.

In the film, Spider-Man might also team up with Charlie Cox‘s Daredevil, another “street-level” hero who recently had a spectacular MCU comeback in Spider-Man: No Way Home and who has a Disney+ series of his own coming from Marvel Studios.

What about Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man 4?

Although the names “Tobey Maguire” and “Spider-Man 4” have long been associated, it is not because the original Spidey actor will be in the MCU prequel.

Fans have started to wonder when and where the actor will reappear as the Marvel superhero after he made a comeback in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Spider-Man 4 from Marvel Studios doesn’t currently seem to be that location.

After completing his own Spider-Man trilogy in 2007, Maguire was previously linked to a Spider-Man 4 of his own. Originally scheduled for release in 2011, the film was ultimately shelved in favor of a relaunched Spider-Man franchise starring Andrew Garfield in 2010 due to creative conflicts between filmmaker Sam Raimi and Sony Pictures.

But since the actor’s comeback in No Way Home, talk of a fourth Spidey movie featuring Maguire has gotten out of hand.

Actor Thomas Haden Church, who appeared in Spider-Man 3 and No Way Home, made a suggestion that he would like to work on Spider-Man 4 with Maguire, although nothing about a new Maguire Spider-Man movie has been confirmed:

“There’s always been some kind of…I’ve heard rumors…that Sam Raimi was going to do another [‘Spider-Man’ movie] with Tobey [Maguire] and if that happens, I would probably campaign to maybe at least do a cameo.”

Does Sam Raimi plan to helm Spider-Man 4?

Sam Raimi, Spider-Man, Mary Jane Watson

As was already mentioned, Spider-Man 4 is currently without a director, thus Sam Raimi would have as good a chance as anybody to try his hand at the MCU’s take on Marvel’s wall-crawler.

With Tobey Maguire, Raimi had previously planned to create a Spider-Man 4 of his own, but the project was ultimately scrapped because Raimi felt it increasingly constrictive for his creativity to make films in Sony’s original super-powered universe.

After some time, “anything is possible,” according to the director of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and if the chance ever arose, “[he]d love to work with Tobey again”:

“I’ve come to realize after making Doctor Strange that anything is possible, really anything in the Marvel universe, any team-ups. I love Tobey. I love Kirsten Dunst. I think all things are possible. I don’t really have a story or a plan. I don’t know if Marvel would be interested in that right now. I don’t know what their thoughts are about that. I haven’t really pursued that. But it sounds beautiful. Even if it wasn’t a ‘Spider-Man’ movie, I’d love to work with Tobey again, in a different role.”

In regards to working on Tom Holland’s interpretation of the role, he previously stated to the Los Angeles Times after watching No Way Home that “If I made a Spider-Man movie, it would probably have to be with Tobey or he’d break my neck:”

“I loved ‘No Way Home.’ I thought it was a complete audience thrill ride. The crowd I was with was ooh-ing and ahh-ing, and it had a great heart to it. It was great seeing my old friends again. I love Spider-Man. And I love Tom Holland in the role. [But] if I made a ‘Spider-Man’ movie, it would probably have to be with Tobey or he’d break my neck.”

Raimi “[didn’t] have any plans to make Spider-Man 4” as of May 2022, according to Screen Rant, and has not “pursued that:”

“I currently don’t have any plans to make ‘Spider-Man 4.’ And they’re so successful with the new ‘Spider-Man’ series that I don’t know if that’s gonna happen or not. I haven’t pursued that.”

There is no formal date set for the release of Spider-Man 4.

Who will be the 4th Spider-Man?

A fourth “Spider-Man” film is currently in production, and Tom Holland is slated to return as the title character. Holland makes his Marvel debut as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the 2016 film “Captain America: Civil War.”

Is Spider-Man 4 confirmed?

One month later, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige provided an update to the New York Times, reiterating that production on the fourth movie is already beginning. We’re actively starting to develop where the tale goes next, as Amy [Pascal], I, Disney, and Sony are talking about, he said.

Is Venom coming to Spider-Man 4?

This suggests that many of Spider-Man’s iconic villains, including Venom, who have been mainly absent thus far, will likely appear in the next chapter of this cinematic world.
