Killmonger terrorised Wakanda in 2018, but by the end of the movie, he had passed away from his wounds. Nevertheless, fans have clamoured for the character to appear more frequently in the MCU ever since. His reappearance was now explained.
Fortunately, despite being deceased, Michael B. Jordan was able to make a brief appearance in Wakanda Forever.
Even while the sequence itself wasn’t very long, it was quite crucial.
Shuri expected to be able to confide in her brother or her deceased mother in her time of need, but she is unable to do so. Killmonger is given to the next Black Panther in its place.
But why did Marvel select to employ Killmonger in that manner?
In Black Panther 2, why does Shuri discover Killmonger?
Nate Moore, the executive producer of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, discussed Michael B. Jordan’s return as Killmonger in an interview with IGN.
It was “a pivotal moment in the film,” according to Moore, and Jordan “was really interested in coming back:“
“It’s a pivotal moment in the film. I think it speaks it Shuri’s state of mind when she takes the heart-shaped herb. And I think while it’s not what she wanted, maybe it was what she needed. Michael [B. Jordan] was really interested in coming back to portray Killmonger and especially when Ryan [Coogler] pitched him as to how it would express itself.”
After Chadwick Boseman’s death, the producer stated that Jordan’s involvement in Wakanda Forever “was important for him:”
“[He] thought it felt fitting both narratively and, also again, you know he also suffered the same loss that we all did. So, to be able to participate in this film, which hopefully can be cathartic for audiences, was important for him. And he’s such a dynamic actor that while he’s not in the movie a lot, his impact is obviously felt, and he’s such a great partner, so it was great to have him back on set.“
A Killmonger Use That Is Perfect
It’s reasonable to state that Ryan Coogler found the ideal technique to once again utilise Michael B. Jordan’s villain despite the fact that there were numerous ways the character could have been used in the sequel inadvertently.
It was the ideal narrative move to introduce Shuri to Killmonger rather than her family.
Shuri was regressing at the time, becoming more like Erik than she would ever admit, as Killmonger himself noted. Thankfully, by the movie’s conclusion, she managed to avoid falling to his lowest points, albeit it was close.
Many wished that Jordan’s old antagonist would have a redemptive journey and succeed T’Challa as the Black Panther. That would undoubtedly feel weird and would most likely not have been received as well as Shuri’s journey was.
Disney+ now has Black Panther: Wakanda Forever available for viewing.
