Elizabeth Olsen has finally hinted at the vast future awaiting this fan-favorite character and when fans may anticipate seeing her return. Scarlet Witch has been out of the MCU spotlight for almost a year, with her most recent appearance being in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
With her first appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron, where she played the character Wanda Maximoff, Olsen has played a significant role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Wandavision, her debut solo effort, significantly enhanced Scarlet Witch. Although it was a dangerous move for Marvel, the Multiverse of Madness was made possible thanks to its immediate success.
It makes sense that MCU fans around the world are eager to see what the Scarlet Witch’s destiny contains.
Scarlet Witch Olsen’s Future Is Exciting
Elizabeth Olsen, who plays the Scarlet Witch, recently made a visit at Kuwait’s Comfest Con, where she revealed some interesting information for Marvel fans.
During a fan Q&A, Olsen was asked what plot she would like to take on for Wanda Maximoff, the character she portrays in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Whilst Olsen stated that “if [she] were to tell you exactly what [she] would want” then it would “be spoiling something” that is already in the works at Marvel Studios, it seems that this question hit on some crucial themes for what lies ahead for Scarlet Witch.
The actress said that Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, “genuinely asks [the cast] what [they] would want to do with the character]” and that their opinions and ideas are taken into consideration for future projects despite the fact that she was unable to reveal much more:
“Well, honestly, if I were to tell you exactly what I would want, I think I would be spoiling something. Because Kevin Feige genuinely asks us what we want to do with the character and then he does it. So… I don’t know if I can share, but I just want to come back!”
When asked how she felt about Wanda Maximoff’s development, Olsen said that while she couldn’t reveal the character’s destiny, she was grateful for how significant the role has grown.
Olsen admitted that she had only agreed to “two movies and maybe a cameo in another one” when she was initially cast as the Sokovia-born Wanda Maximoff, and that she had “no idea how far it would lead [her].”
“I didn’t know that was in my cards when I signed up for [‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’]… I only knew I was gonna do like two movies and maybe a cameo in another one.”
Of course, Wanda has since had a lengthy tale that is still crucial to the MCU‘s plot. Now the actress has “so much to work on” thanks to Marvel.
It’s been a “very fun journey,” according to Olsen, and “something [she] will eternally be grateful for, for the rest of [her] life.”
“So, I really had no idea how far it would take me. And they’ve given me so much to do, and so much to work on, and it’s something I’ll forever be grateful for, for the rest of my life. It’s been a very fun journey.”
The actress also expresses her pride in the character’s utilisation, saying that “the fans’ reception to Scarlet Witch and Wanda has been truly overwhelmingly positive:”
“And I think the best part is that I think we’ve been able to use the character in a really satisfying way for the fans, and I feel like the response that we get from the fans about Scarlet Witch, and Wanda, and how we’ve been able to use her has been really overwhelmingly positive. And so it’s really amazing to have the interaction with the fans in that way.”
How Exactly Will the Scarlet Witch Return?
Olsen hasn’t said much about the plans for Scarlet Witch, but she has given enough of information that has added to the rumours about when and how the character would return to television.
In an interview with Fandango last year, Olsen revealed that she doesn’t “have any ideas” about what would happen to Maximoff after her previous MCU film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
This was probably a lie to divert fans from spoiling the character’s future in advance, similar to how Andrew Garfield denied that he was reprising his role as Peter Parker while filming Spider-Man: No Way Home. This is especially true given that the actress also said she would enjoy playing the character as an older woman.
Olsen also stated that she would like to take part in a crossover with the X-Men, a group that Marvel is presently planning to revive for the MCU. Nate Moore, vice president of Marvel, has acknowledged that the remake might not happen for “a few years.”
Yet, Olsen stated that she would want to join the mutant team in a crossover when the reboot is eventually fulfilled because her MCU character was/is “such a huge part of those [X-Men] comics.”
Wanda was recently spotted by fans in Multiverse of Madness. Following the release of the Doctor Strange sequel, Olsen acknowledged that the character might now go in a variety of various directions. She wishes that the character’s future might eventually teeter off into something exciting.”
Of course, with Phase 5 of the MCU already underway and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Agatha: Coven of Chaos just around the corner, Scarlet Witch’s future is bright and fans might not have to wait too long to finally be reunited with Wanda Maximoff.
