Following the shocking announcement in September that Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Wolverine for Marvel Studios’ Deadpool 3, the two MCU rookies have been openly trading caustic jabs in advance of production.

One of the most recent instances included the Wolverine actor pleading with the Academy not to nominate Ryan Reynolds on social media.

The actor has now spoken out about his alleged “feud” with the Deadpool actor and the reasons behind his anxiety over the threequel to the comic book.*

Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds Talk About His Problem

Hugh Jackman was questioned by Stephen Colbert over his “ongoing beef” with Ryan Reynolds and his video in which he warned The Academy.

The actor of The Greatest Showman started by describing how one of Ryan Reynolds’ songs, Spirited, was “shortlisted for an Oscar:”

“Well, at the beginning of the new year, I really wanted to put out a post that was positive, but I couldn’t because I found out a song from Spirited, which is a great musical, that he and Will [Ferrell] are in, and a song written by… Justin [Paul] and Benj [Pasek]… who wrote the music for The Greatest Showman. I love them. They wrote the Song, ‘Good Afternoon.’ And singing on the Song was Ryan Reynolds and it was shortlisted for an Oscar.”

Jackman explained that he will “to be on set for months” for Deadpool 3 as to why Reynolds winning would be an issue for him.

And Jackman jokingly said, “I am never going to actually get through one day:” if Reynolds were nominated for Best Song.

“And I was like, ’I have to be on a set for months with this, man. And if he gets nominated for Best Song– if he gets validated in any way as a singer, I am never going to actually get through one day, let alone three months. So for the love of god, I know The nominations close tomorrow, please, please, I love Will Farrell… Please don’t validate him. That’s all I’m asking.”

Ryan Reynolds replied through Good Morning America to Hugh Jackman’s video appeal to the Academy, stating, “I’m not gonna stoop to that level,” and even applauding Jackman’s recent performances:

“I’m not gonna stoop to that level … I’m gonna say right now, I loved Hugh’s performance in ‘The Son.’ There’s zero sarcasm here. It’s literally one the best of his entire career, and his career is very impressive already. So I humbly submit Hugh for your consideration. OK.”

After finishing that speech, though, Reynolds discovered a genuine method to retort to his co-star.

The Spirited actor is heard mocking Jackman’s proposed title for Deadpool 3 after he appears to have attempted to stop the recording, stating, “Not on your life, Chappie:”

“‘Wolverine and Deadpool,’ who is he kidding? Not on your life, Chappie.”

The Conflict Between Deadpool and Wolverine: Its Past and Future

Acting, of all, is what these complaints and exchanges between the two performers are.

In a sense, the two are also marketing the 2024 movie because their “dispute” allows them to continue talking about Deadpool 3.

Even yet, even though Jackman’s part in the threequel wasn’t revealed until September 2022, their fictitious “feud” has actually been going on for a much longer.

The conflict between the two was allegedly started by Scarlett Johansson on the set of X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009, according to CinemaBlend.

The Black Widow actress and Ryan Reynolds were close friends at the time, and she had recently wed.

When the two first met, Jackman cautioned Reynolds to treat Johansson nicely because “I’m watching,” which sparked more conversations between the two and finally led to them calling one another out on social media and elsewhere.

Though intended as a joke, their lengthy history of sniping is really excellent news for Deadpool 3.

Also not only get along well already, but they have years of experience working and battling together.

Their long-standing custom will undoubtedly continue, and may even intensify, once filming gets underway and up until the release of Deadpool 3 in 2024.

The release date for Deadpool 3 is November 8, 2024.
