Since its first release on the channel more than two years ago, Loki Season 1 has continued to be the most-watched MCU Disney+ program. The second season of the franchise’s first live-action series will include Tom Hiddleston‘s God of Mischief.
This time, Loki “finds himself in a battle for the soul of the Time Variance Authority,” as he and his allies struggle to uphold “the truth of what it means to possess free will and glorious purpose.”
This time around, all the usual faces are back, and newcomers like Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan are joining in on the fun of having superpowers.
Reviews for Loki Season 2
The initial reviews for Loki Season 2 are in, and most of them are excellent.
The show’s actors and clever science-fiction plot were hailed by critics who watched the first four episodes early, but it appears that it has its share of problems.
Brandon Davis of Comicbook.com described the show as “a thrilling time-traveling mystery:”
“‘Loki Season 2 rules. The first 4 episodes have a thrilling time-traveling mystery and charm. Some of the TVA sci-fi jargon is hard to follow. The cast is tremendous together. The sets are great. Overall, it’s awesome. Hoping Episodes 5 & 6 stick the landing!”
He went on to say that the newcomer Ke Huy Quan is “brilliant,” praising the actor’s compatibility with the previous cast:
“Yes, Ke Huy Quan is brilliant in ‘Loki’. His character has a key role in Season 2. He brings so much charm and joy to this show, brilliant chemistry with the rest of the cast.”
Similar to other reviews, Erik Davis from Fandango stated that the series “continues to be [his] favorite MCU show:”
“I LOVE ‘Loki’! I’ve watched the first 4 episodes & #Loki continues to be my favorite MCU show. This season has a more frantic pace to it, which keeps tensions high the entire time. Still brainy & weird w/ great chemistry among its cast. Ke Huy Quan is a big scene stealer of course, but the story – full of time travel, timelines, trickery & a guy named Timely – is reminiscent of Marvel Studios at its best & most entertaining. Eps 5 & 6 are gonna be wild!”
The “direction and cinematography” were highlighted by Phase Zero’s Jamie Jirak as two of the series’ highlights, while also praising Ke Huy Quan:
“I had a blast at the ‘Loki’ launch event. I only stayed for the first episode, because I want to remain a woman of the people on
Phase Zero but I LOVED IT. The direction and cinematography blew me away. I missed Tom and Owen so much. Ke Huy Quan MVP!!”
Loki Season 2 was hailed by Jenna Anderson of Comicbook.com as “[her] favorite thing Disney+ has released this year:”
“‘Loki Season 2 is, by far, my favorite thing Disney+ has released this year. The cinematography is outstanding, and the cast does a great job of carrying what could be a very overwhelming plot. It’s not flawless, but I dig it.”
Adding, “[he] is wonderful:” she boarded the Ke Huy Quan train as well.
“As a Mobius and Ravonna girlie, I’m very happy with where their storylines seem to be headed in ‘Loki Season 2. And unsurprisingly, Ke Huy Quan is absolutely wonderful.”
Erik Swann of Cinema Blend called the show “must-see TV,” using phrases like “kooky, charming, funny, and sweet.”
“He Who Remains is gone, but ‘Loki’ remains must-see TV! I’ve seen Season 2’s first four episodes, and they’re just as kooky, charming, funny and sweet as one would hope. Eric Martin takes on EP duties and skillfully builds on the show’s mythology. Fans are in for a wild ride.”
Even though the first four episodes of the streaming series had significant issues, Decider’s Alex Zalben nevertheless praised it as a“blast to watch:” saying that it “felt[e] a little more like TVA: The Series featuring Loki.”
“I have some issues with ‘Loki Season 2 (based on the first 4 eps). Direction isn’t as strong, it feels a little more like TVA: The Series Featuring Loki, the Jonathan Majors of it all. But it’s still a blast to watch, and Ke Huy Quan is the perfect addition to the cast.”
Loki serves as a “true post-Endgame highlight,” according to senior writer Eric Italiano of Brobible, who stated, “Loki reminds us what makes the MCU tick:”
“‘Loki’ reminds us what makes the MCU tick is merging a character with creators who understand their tone. S2 epitomizes that, as the God of Mischief’s journey feels absurd yet important — his world gonzo but deeply felt and real. The series stands as a true post-‘Endgame’ highlight.”
The series received similar praise from Chris Killian of Comicbook.com, who stated that Loki “continues to be the finest quality Marvel content out of the D+ series:
“So I’ve seen the first few episodes of the second season of ‘Loki’ and it continues to be the highest quality Marvel content out of the D+ series. Tom and Owen’s chemistry remains top notch but the real MVP is Ke Huy Quan who is – no surprise – fantastic. Steals every scene.”
The first season of Loki wasn’t his favorite, and Rob Keyes of Screenrant claimed Season 2 is “better, faster, and takes bigger swings”
“Watched the first four (out of six) episodes for ‘Loki season 2 and loved it. I didn’t love first season and this is better, faster, and takes bigger swings. Depending how they followup the WILD fourth episode, it might be the best Marvel Studios show on Disney+. Much needed.”
The second installment of the series was not as well received by Insider’s Kirsten Acuna, who noted that it was “a bit tough to follow at times:”
“Watched the first 4 eps of ‘Loki Season 2. Not exactly what I expected given Season 1’s end. Love seeing Hiddleston + Wilson back together, but it’s a bit tough to follow at times. (Had to rewatch some of it twice.) Too much McDonald’s. Ke Huy Quan is the show’s best addition.”
In addition, Nicole Drum, a staff writer for Comicbook.com, commented on the show’s several “hiccups,” calling it “an absolute must-watch even with its issues:”
“‘Loki Season 2 is still the best thing at the MCU party but Season 2 definitely has its hiccups, especially with pacing, and doesn’t quite live up to Season 1. It’s cinematography and direction are EPIC, though, and it is an absolute must-watch even with its issues.”
What Are These Loki Reviews Telling Us?
With all the praise Loki Season 2 has received, Marvel Studios must be glad to have another success on its hands.
Secret Invasion and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law are two of the lowest-scoring films in the franchise’s more than ten-year history, demonstrating how poorly the past two live-action MCU streaming series have performed in the critics’ eyes.
A few things are evident while examining all of this adoration. The cast of Loki remains superb, and this season looks to be bigger and more important than ever.
The pace of the program has been regarded as quick, and the heightening of the stakes is probably what gave rise to these pacing criticisms since the second season is more ambitious than Season 1.
While most people have found this to be effective, others have raised concerns that it may go too quickly and include too much language connected to the Multiverse and timelines to understand on the first watch.
Fortunately, viewers won’t have to wait long to see Tom Hiddleston’s most recent Marvel adventure, as Episode 1 of the super-powered series premieres on Disney+ on Thursday, October 5, at 9 p.m. ET.
Is the Loki series good or bad?
In contrast to the other MCU programs, Loki’s ending is not in the least disappointing. I’d say it’s the finest section of the episode since it features some outstanding acting and has genuine MCU repercussions. This concert couldn’t possibly have been done any better, in my opinion. eager for season 2.
