Release, Cast, and Everything We Know About eternals 2

After the MCU released Eternals in 2021, speculation now centers on the cast, development, and potential release of eternals 2.

Eternals had a mixed reception upon release in November 2021 but had a strong opening weekend at the box office and went on to become one of the most-watched films on streaming services in 2022.

The team’s return to action is now quite questionable, though, as the third theatrical picture of Phase 4 features one of the largest casts of any MCU standalone movie in history and establishes some wild plotlines.

When might eternals 2 come out?

Eternals Marvel Studios

Marvel Studios hasn’t yet made a formal announcement about the start of production on eternals 2.

Even though it was released at the height of the pandemic, the first movie only just managed to gross $400 million worldwide, making it the third-lowest-grossing MCU film ever. As a result, Marvel might not be as eager to continue this franchise right away.

After the most recent round of delays to the theatrical slate for the Multiverse Saga, Marvel Studios has a few open release dates that are accessible should they be announced.

The last film to be released before Avengers: The Kang Dynasty would be the first open one, which would debut on February 13, 2026. However, many believe that Shang-Chi 2 may end up occupying this position due to the hero’s significant involvement in the upcoming Avengers movie.

With the team being called back into action for 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars, which is rumored to be the biggest crossover event in comic-book-movie history, it might also be postponed until after Avengers 5 takes place.

But if the next two Avengers films aren’t in the works, Marvel might be holding off on introducing the Eternals until Phase 7, which is certain to usher in even more iconic new heroes.

Cast speculation for eternals 2: Who Will Return?

Ten major Hollywood stars took on the roles of the extraterrestrial Marvel heroes in the first Eternals, which had one of the largest casts of any first film in the MCU’s history.

And even though a number of those well-known actors were prominent casualties by the end of the first movie, a few well-known actors ought to be anticipated to return in Eternals 2:

1.) Sersi by Gemma Chan

As Sersi, the protagonist of the first Eternals film, played by Gemma Chan, Sersi used her amazing matter-changing abilities to help defeat the Celestial Tiamut and prevent the destruction of Earth.

The mighty Celestial known as Arishem later took her into space for judgment before she vanished into the stars; it is unknown where she is now.

2.) Kingo by Kumail Nanjiani

Even though Kingo, played by Kumail Nanjiani, will undoubtedly have to face his own personal demons, he chose not to engage in the last battle with his fellow Eternals.

He was taken outside of Earth’s atmosphere together with Sersi after that battle to confront Arishem for preventing Tiamut’s birth, therefore there’s a significant probability he’d appear in a sequel.

3.) Lia McHugh – Sprite

Despite using her illusionary abilities both for and against the Eternals throughout the film, Lia McHugh’s Sprite made a significant sacrifice at the film’s conclusion when Sersi removed her abilities using the Uni-Mind, making Sprite mortal.

She ended her tale by enrolling in school for the first time, looking forward to starting over as a human adolescent and gaining the chance to eventually mature into an adult.

4.) Phastos by Brian Tyree Henry

Pastos, played by Brian Tyree Henry, was the Eternals’ technological genius and the other half of the first openly gay relationship in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Phastos eventually created the Uni-Mind bracelets that enabled Sersi to beat Tiamut.

Fans were curious as to where precisely Sersi and Kingo were taken in the vastness of space, as Phastos was hauled up into the sky to face Arishem’s wrath for his part in stopping Tiamut’s birth.

5.) Makkari by Lauren Ridloff

Makkari, who established herself as the first deaf hero in Marvel Studios’ history and established herself as the series’ top speedster, assisted in taking down Tiamut and the other antagonists in this movie before departing on the Domo, the ship of the Eternals.

In an effort to locate other Eternals dispersed throughout the galaxy, she was subsequently observed on the Domo questioning what had become of her family, who had been abducted by Arishem.

6.) Barry Keoghan is a Druig.

After being separated from the crew for half a millennia, the master mind manipulator of the Eternals eventually rejoined them and assisted them in defeating Tiamut before departing Earth on the Domo.

Barry Keoghan’s hero is now helping to lead the search for new creatures like him and also traversing space in search of Sersi, Kingo, and Phastos because he has established a more positive relationship with his Eternals family.

7.) Thena Angelina Jolie

Thena, who had assumed the role of the Eternals’ greatest warrior, used her skill with weapons and demonstrated her strength in the conflict with Kro and Tiamut before departing Earth on the same ship as Druig and Makkari.

Angelina Jolie, who was one of the emotional pillars of the previous film, will probably return with the rest of the cast despite her star power.

8.) Harry Styles – Eros

Harry Styles made a startling MCU appearance in the mid-credits sequence of Eternals as Eros/Starfox, the Mad Titan Thanos‘ never-before-seen brother.

Since he pledged to aid his fellow Eternals locate his comrades who had been seized by Arishem for judgment, he will very certainly make his return to the Marvel reality when the Eternals do so.

9.) Pip the Troll by Patton Oswalt

Pip the Troll, portrayed by comic book movie veteran Patton Oswalt in his first official MCU appearance, served as Eros’ herald when he boarded the Domo.

Eros is probably going to make a comeback, either in Eternals 2 or a number of other MCU projects, and Pip will undoubtedly be right behind him.

10.) Kit Harrington

In the first Eternals film, Kit Harington, who had only around 10 minutes of screen time, made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Dane Whitman, who would someday try to become the Black Knight.

The former Game of Thrones star shone in the second post-credits scene of Eternals, as he first used the Ebony Blade while Mahershala Ali’s Blade hinted at a potential alliance between them.

In Eternals 2, will Ikaris make a return?

Eternals Marvel Studios

Where Richard Madden sits about a potential comeback as Ikaris, one of the most potent members of the Eternals, is one of the main doubts fans have about Eternals 2.

Ikaris, invoking Greek mythology, flew into the sun at the conclusion of the first movie, and author Kaz Firpo confirmed to CBR that Ikaris perished at that very time while providing insight into his choice:

“What is the melting point of an Eternal? How long does it take to literally melt an Eternal robot? For what it’s worth… yeah, it was always that. He can’t bear to face his family after what he’s done, which he realizes.”

It’s “kind of hard to come back” after Madden’s character “flew into the sun,” but that doesn’t necessarily mean that he couldn’t, as Madden himself jokingly admitted to ComicBook.com.

The titular heroes’ creation as alien robots by the Celestials to prepare planets for Emergencies to give birth to new Celestials was revealed in Eternals, therefore their makeup must be kept somewhere.

Even though Ikaris destroyed this incarnation of his body, there’s a risk that he’ll return to a new body to continue controlling the MCU if the team learns more about their origins.

It’s possible that other heroes who have passed away, such as Salma Hayek’s Ajak and Don Lee’s Gilgamesh, will experience a similar fate, but with so many other noteworthy old and new characters to feature in Eternals 2, it’s still unknown who will return for additional action.

How Will Eternals 2 Play Out?

When adding to the rich lore of the MCU, Eternals 2 might go in at least a few different routes, based on the conclusion of Eternals.

Given how the Multiversal parts of the MCU are beginning to veer off course, the upcoming film will undoubtedly deal with more of the Eternals’ origin tale as they endure Arishem’s wrath for saving Earth.

As they wait for judgment, Sersi, Phastos, and Kingo will be in a lot of difficulties, and Eternals 2 may begin with an epic battle against the Celestials.

Then, Druig, and Makkari will have to gather the strength and firepower to achieve that task, and Eros and Pip will have to find a method to rescue that trio alongside them.

Fans will also be curious to know what will happen to Sprite now that she is a human because there is still a chance that she could ultimately regain her powers if the Eternals require her assistance.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2021, Kit Harington revealed that “there is no roadmap” he is aware of for the upcoming film, but he also hinted that “this character” and others in the franchise have “a really interesting future”:

“There is no roadmap that I know of at the moment. If they have ideas about where my character goes, I’m not privy to it. All I know is that when I came on board, they said, ‘There’s a really interesting future for this character, and if you read up about him, there are many different ways we could go with him.’ And that intrigues me. I’m fascinated by the idea that any character in any story is driven by some addiction to something. And with [Dane Whitman], it’s very palpable that this sword, this blade, has an addictive pull on him, and I find that really interesting.”

Eternals 2 is still cloaked in some mystery, but it is evident that many people at Marvel Studios are already thinking about it as the Multiverse Saga ascends to new heights.

Disney+ is currently streaming Eternals.
