Rejected Superhero Suits in Ant-Man 3

Unreleased suit concepts from Superhero Suits in Ant-Man 3 and The Wasp: Quantumania  have been shown in new official artwork.

Even though Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania might not have been the biggest commercial or critical success, it at least included a few really amazing designs.

One example is MODOK by Corey Stoll. The character underwent a few changes, but what viewers saw on television ultimately came out remarkably similar to the original.

Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors, went through several different looks before landing on what is perhaps the coolest outfit in the entire MCU.

Unveiling of New Lang Family Superhero Suits in Ant-Man 3

The Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania movie’s discarded superhero suit ideas were showcased in new artwork posted on Andy Park’s Instagram page. Andy Park is the director of visual development at Marvel Studios.

The entire Lang family is seen in the piece together in the Quantum Realm. It’s interesting to note that these drawings also included a double helmet idea that wasn’t depicted in the movie.

Even though the main three had colourful outfits in the final version, these ideas were scrapped since they better show how the base colours of their suits were used in the first place.

The designs in the final product are less striking and feature much more black accents.

In fact, the outfits are eerily similar to what Scott Lang wore during some of the time travel experiments he assisted with in Avengers: Endgame. The squad’s matching team uniforms for their Time Heist were later inspired by this garment.

The similarities between Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne’s potential wardrobes make this similarity even more striking.

In the post, Park noted that this was “an early concept painting,” and that the “double helmet was just a safety measure:”

“Here’s an an early concept painting I did of the whole family having a Quantum Suit look during preproduction. The double helmet was just a safety measure. Their helmets could come off inside the larger helmet I would imagine. And these quantum harnesses could come off as well. Fun to explore!”

In response, the artist acknowledged that the piece “ended up looking like it was a still in an animated film:”

“Side note: I had to turn this around pretty quickly & it ended up having a look like it was a still in an animated film or something. I thought that was cool!”

In the end, the double helmet was not included in the film. Instead, many of its main characters were seen without helmets. All three of Scott, Hope, and Cassie were able to preserve their distinctive colours.

It’s not too difficult to understand why these concepts were abandoned. Helmets over helmets are a little hard to defend because they can be both foolish and useless.

Marvel Studios appears to have quickly abandoned the notion that characters in the Quantum Realm needed to wear helmets at all times in order to breathe and work. Actually, Scott Lang spends the majority of his on-screen time without a helmet.

Some fans immediately pointed out how this would go against earlier guidelines established in the first Ant-Man movie. Although there isn’t anything to specifically defend the movie’s decisions, things might be different due to mischief in the Quantum Realm.

In the future, it would be wonderful if Marvel made an attempt to explain that.

Even while it would have been good to see those more colourful designs for the major protagonists’ costumes, those that did appear on film were nonetheless a fantastic representation of Quantumania’s costume design. The clothes aren’t all that distinctive from what the size-changing family wore in their sequel and in Avengers: Endgame, though.
