Significant MCU Phase 4 Reference Reported in Spider-Verse 2

One of the largest Phase 4 MCU films is reported to have a significant connection to Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Spider-Man Miles Morales multiverse

The highly acclaimed Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse film from 2018 has a sequel called Spider-Verse 2. In that film, Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, Peter B. Parker, and other Spider-heroes fought to save the Multiverse.

Even though there was a passing allusion in 2016’s Doctor Strange, the publication of any significant MCU stories with a Multiverse theme was preceded by the release of Into the Spider-Verse.

But, since then, the MCU has begun its Multiverse Saga, exploring the idea of various Spider-Man Variants meeting in Spider-Man: No Way Home, evoking the same themes as Into the Spider-Verse.

Spider-Man: Embedded in the MCU?

Scooper Daniel Richtman claims that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse may make reference to the multiverse-affecting events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

While Tom Holland won’t play Peter Parker, despite recent rumours to the contrary, Daniel RPK says that the Multiverse mischief he got into may be specifically mentioned in the animated movie.

According to his report, “a specific occurrence” that was detrimental to the multiverse will be described. The disaster that Doctor Strange and “that nerdy child” produced will also be highlighted; Peter Parker is referred to as “the nerdy kid” because the world forgot about him at the conclusion of No Way Home.

Fans may recognise this way of referring No Way Home’s events because it is similar to a dialogue that Doctor Strange, Wong, and America Chavez have in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The three talk about “an event with Spider-Man” while sitting in a cafe, although they don’t seem to know or remember the person wearing the mask.

Chavez: “How much experience do you guys have with the multiverse?”

Strange: “We have experience with the multiverse, most recently there was an incident with Spider-Man…”

Chavez: “Um, what man?”

Strange: “Spider-Man, he has the powers of a spider.”

Wong: “Hence the name.”

In fact, it has been discussed before that Doctor Strange might appear in the animated Spider-Verse films. The sorcerer himself almost appeared in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, according to directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord.

A Universe That Is Linked for Spider-Verse 2

Because it can explain why there have been so many various versions of characters like Spider-Man throughout the years in different franchises and from different corporations, the Multiverse theory works well for Marvel on the big screen.

It will be intriguing to observe what other effects the possible union of two cinematic Multiverses will have. The MCU’s version of the Multiverse might theoretically have a universe where Into the Spider-Verse took place, and vice versa, since a Multiverse implies unlimited possibilities.

If this crossover happens, even only by a simple reference, fans may get the chance to see that fact examined in greater detail.

However, the MCU and Sony’s Spider-Man Universe are linked, raising the prospect of popular Spider-Verse characters making an appearance in upcoming MCU films.

On June 2, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse opens in theatres.
