The character Robbie Reyes, played by Luna, was hailed as some of the greatest work the program has ever produced during its seven seasons. Robbie Reyes featured in 10 episodes of SHIELD‘s fourth season. Even the computer graphics were astounding.
There hasn’t been any indication about the return of Luna’s hell-boggling hero since his last appearance on the program in 2017.
But if the chance presented itself, would the actor take it?
Will Diego Luna Reappear as the Ghost-Rider?
Gabriel Luna spoke with Comicbook.com about his past role as Ghost-Rider in Agents of SHIELD’s fourth season and if he would ever return for more while promoting HBO’s The Last of Us.
With the character, Luna acknowledged that “there’s a lot more to say” and that “[he`d] ] be happy to continue:”
“You know, I think that the way we left it… I would definitely think that there’s a lot more to say. I loved the response. Everyone loved Robbie and they loved the character… and if we only ever did those ten episodes and nothing else, I would feel very complete with what we were able to do. To bring awareness to the character, to show people a Mexican-American hero — the first on television, I believe. I know that’s said a lot but I think people forget about 2016 when we did that with Robbie. But he’s a wonderful character and I love him. I’d absolutely be happy to continue.”
The actor said that Robbie Reyes “certainly deserves [to return]” because he “has become quite an essential element in Marvel publishing”:
“There are so many places you can go because in the comics he became an Avenger and he’s now the All-Rider (a Ghost Rider without limits), which is pretty awesome when you think about it… he’s become quite an important piece in Marvel publishing so if he were to appear again, he absolutely deserves it. Whether it’s me or not.”
The MCU’s plans for Ghost-Rider in the future
It’s disappointing that there hasn’t been any actual news on Rider’s present or future.
Since 2020, there have been rumors that Marvel Studios is working on a Ghost project. There were rumors that the corporation had already begun negotiations with a different actress (not Luna) for the role as recently as last year.
Many people thought that it may be Norman Reedus, who had been vying for the part. Even well-known actor Ryan Gosling had expressed interest in playing the role; he would probably play Johnny Blaze rather than Robbie Reyes.
The figure was hotly reported to appear in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness only in May, but that never occurred.
Possibly if there isn’t a Ghost Rider project in the works anytime soon, fans may at least hope that Gabriel Luna’s (or even Nicholas Cage’s) take on the character will appear in Avengers: Secret Wars.
