While he mostly operated alone in his initial World War II adventure, he now must collaborate with five other heroes (Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye) to join the Avengers and defend the planet from an alien invasion and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki‘s cunning schemes. When it comes time to defeat the first “Avengers-level” threat in the series, the team, which was initially at odds, unites under the leadership of Steve Rogers.
3.) Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
“I think it’s time to tell the truth. SHIELD is not what we thought it was.”
In Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America battles his presumed dead wartime best friend Bucky Barnes (a.k.a. the Winter Soldier) while operating undercover alongside Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff. Cap, Fury, Romanoff, and the recently added Sam Wilson (played by Anthony Mackie) destroy Project Insight, a SHIELD programme that would have killed millions, after it is revealed that the nefarious Hydra has infiltrated SHIELD.
4.) Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
“I once had strings, but now I’m free… There are no strings on me!“
With SHIELD gone, Avengers: Age of Ultron sees Steve Rogers and co. looking for answers on how they can better protect the world from threats like a HYDRA infiltration into their most trusted government agency. Going against Cap’s wishes, this leads to the creation of rogue AI Ultron. Cap and the rest of the Avengers thwart Ultron in the fictional country of Sokovia, leaving hundreds dead and billions of dollars in damage. The film closes with Steve introducing audiences to a new generation of Avengers heroes including Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson/Falcon.
5.) Captain America: Civil War (2016)
“We’re outside the law on this one, so if you come with us, you’re a wanted man.“
Following the events of Age of Ultron, the Avengers team is split in half by Captain America and Iron Man in Captain America: Civil War. The two are at odds over the idea of the government controlling superheroes, with Cap siding against it. On a German airport tarmac, the two teams of superheroes clash, and Civil War culminates with Cap ramming his shield into Iron Man’s chest and freeing his allies from the Raft, a maximum-security jail.
6.) Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
“Evacuate the city! Engage all defenses! And get this man a shield!”
After some time in seclusion, Captain America is propelled back into the spotlight in Avengers: Infinity War. Cap links up with a few Earth-based heroes to battle Thanos‘ army in the wilds of Wakanda as the Mad Titan Thanos is on a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones to wipe out half of all life. Even though Evans’ Marvel hero fights the Mad Titan directly, he loses, and Thanos destroys half of the cosmos.
7.) Avengers: Endgame (2019)
“Avengers! Assemble.“
The time-traveling epic Avengers: Endgame brings to a close Chris Evans’ run as Captain America. Cap leads a voyage back in time to gather the Infinity Stones five years after killing Thanos to maybe repair those who were snapped. From there, he engages in combat once more, this time taking on Thanos from 2014 while addressing the whole MCU with a call to arms. He aids in the defeat of the Mad Titan, reviving everyone who was reduced to dust. Chris Evans, career in the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes to an end as he transfers leadership to Anthony Mackie’s Sam and teleports back in time to be with Peggy Carter (played by Hayley Atwell).
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (series) (2021)
As Sam Wilson, played by Anthony Mackie, struggles to accept the shield and its tradition, the next generation of Captain America is formally established in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. After the Disney+ series, Mackie’s MCU hero dons a new outfit and assumes the title of Captain America permanently.

While Captain America has made several significant cameos across the MCU cinema, he has also made several other brief appearances throughout the franchise.
2013’s Thor: The Dark World
In Thor: The Dark World, Captain America does not physically arrive, but he does so via a Loki-made illusion. Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief briefly assumes the role of Captain America during Thor’s attempt to flee Asgard. He asks Chris Hemsworth’s Asgardian hero if he wants “to have a rousing discussion on truth, honor, [or] patriotism” before Thor slams him against a wall.
Ant-Man (2015)
Steve Rogers is one of the key characters of Ant-Man’s post-credits stinger, despite not appearing in any of the movie’s 177 minutes. The Star-Spangled Man concentrates on Captain America and Sam Wilson as they appear to have Bucky Barnes, played by Sebastian Stan, in custody and wonders who can aid them. 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming

When Will Captain-America Make His Next MCU Appearance?
