The production of at least one Marvel Studios Disney+ project scheduled for release this year was hurried.

Phase 5 of MCU’s build-up has gained a lot of attention. Reviews for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever have been overwhelmingly good, with its adversary Namor standing out in particular. When Kang makes his screen debut in February 2023’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, many fans will be thrilled.

While the MCU has been successful on the big screen, its Disney+ production has been beset by a number of problems.

According to reports, Echo has been worst hit by these production issues, and MCU producer Marion Dayre has once more provided some vital insight into the situation.

Marvel Hastily Produced Echo

Head writer Marion Dayre, known for her work as story editor & writer on the intense drama Better Call Saul, spoke up about Echo’s tumultuous production process in an interview with the podcast The Writer’s Panel through The Cosmic Circus.

When asked how her experiences working on the Breaking Bad spin-off helped her with her work on Marvel’s Echo, Dayre said that she had to modify her work style to “work with deadlines” for the Marvel project.

β€œIt was really about finding a process in the moment that allowed me to get to some deadlines and, you know, be a little more flexible than I would have been if, you know, if I had  all the time in the world I would have done it a little bit differently.”

Dayre stressed that the way she handled Better Call Saul was different from the way she described working on Echo as a “crash course.” Dayre employed a “brick-by-brick process” for the former, breaking each episode “three times.

The luxury of time was regrettably not available for developing the next MCU project Echo. Dayre, on the other hand, drew on his previous expertise crafting an episode of the 2019 limited series The Act. Better Call Saul was not shattered as swiftly as The Act.

The writer was able to put down” some tentpoles that we more or less stuck with” because to the knowledge she gathered from working on a limited series.

Even though Dayre was able to find solutions, it is obvious that the artist prefers a more methodical approach to her work because she freely admits that “if [she] had all the time in the world [she] would have done it a little bit differently.”

Echo Problems Reflect Serious MCU Problems

As the Multiverse Saga progresses, it’s possible that the hurried manufacture of Marvel’s Echo mirrors the issue at the heart of Marvel.

The studio has had challenges. After the blockbuster highs at the conclusion of Phase 3, Phase 4’s reception from fans has been muted throughout the previous two years.

Numerous of these problems result from a preference for quantity over quality and Disney‘s inability to successfully employ its streaming service.

Because of Disney’s obsession on releasing as much as possible, viewers are suffering from “burn-out,” making it more difficult to enjoy Marvel and Star Wars material.

Both audiences and creators complain that the deadlines they are working under are excessively strict and even stifling. VFX artists complained earlier in the year about Marvel Studios being “awful” to work for, leading some of them to give up on the field completely.

Fans can only hope that Marvel Studios starts to schedule its projects more effectively.

This would not only please the audience, but it would also raise the production values overall, give the directors more creative freedom, and give the VFX artists more time to polish their job.

Echo is supposed to be out in the summer of 2023, however there are rumours that it may wait until early 2024.
