Marvel began introducing some fresh, young characters to the globe with Phase 4. This includes the youthful prodigy Riri William, the expert archer Kate Bishop from Hawkeye, America Chavez from Gomez, Wanda’s young children, and others.

Next, in just a few short weeks, Kathryn Newton will play the mature Cassie Lang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

The actor previously discussed her parallels to Cassie Lang, even mentioning how Stature and she are both “really not perfect,” but yet “want to be a hero.”

The actress has shared some advice provided to her on acting and being yourself while associated with the Marvel Cinematic Universe ahead of her on-screen debut.

Advice from Paul Rudd to Kathryn Newton

Kathryn Newton, who co-starred with Paul Rudd in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, recently spoke with The Wrap on his advice for collaborating with Marvel Studios.

He advised her never to “hold back,” and she said she “[shouldn’t] end this movie and wish that [she] hadn’t attempted that joke:”

“You know, we fell right into Cassie and Scott immediately. And we had some rehearsals, Paul was doing some improv, and I would just do a little bit… and when we started filming, we did a couple scenes with Michael [Douglas] and Michelle [Pfeiffer] and Evangeline [Lilly], and Paul and I were on our break. And he was like, ‘Listen, I can tell you’re funny. Just don’t hold back.’ He’s like, ‘If I could say one thing, don’t finish this movie and wish that you didn’t try that joke. Just don’t hold back, do it all.’ He’s like, ‘It’s a movie. At the end of the day, they’re gonna cut it if it’s not funny, and they might use it if it is.’ And I was like, ’Really? On a Marvel movie, you can try things? And he’s like, ’Yes.’”

Xochitl Gomez, who portrayed America Chavez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, discussed her participation in the MCU and claimed that Benedict Wong frequently checked in on her while filming:

“He was constantly there for me, literally from the very first day… and he’s like, ‘Anything you need, I am here.’ He’s kind of just like that. Just a really genuine and warm person. And I really hope we get to work together more. He’s just awesome.”

Elizabeth Olsen and Benedict Cumberbatch both coached Gomez, and Olsen was the one who made it plain that “Marvel wants [her] feedback:”

“I mean, [Elizabeth Olsen] was the one that told me that ’Marvel wants your feedback. And don’t be shy to give ideas… So I did that sometimes. And it would be really crazy when we’d be able to shoot an idea that I had.”

Marvel’s Young Future

Hearing about how the MCU’s venerable performers assist the newcomers in becoming acclimated to the massive operation that is Marvel Studios never gets old.

Even Iron Man has found himself in the situation of advising a rookie superhero, telling Dominque Thorne that her Riri Williams character “is and should always be her own person.”

The next stage with all these fresh faces is to actually put them on screen together. In other words, where is the crossover between the Young Avengers? These new cast members aren’t getting any younger, after all.

There have been several theories suggesting that Quantumania may have important Young Avengers appearances or setups. But none of it has been proven, so it’s still just conjecture.

Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan appears to be the first to receive a significant crossover. It won’t involve younger heroes, though. Instead, when The Marvels reaches theatres on July 28, she will battle alongside Monica Rambeau’s Spectrum and Carol Danvers’ Captain Marvel.

For Cassie Lang, perhaps Quantumania on February 17 is just the start of her adventure, and sooner rather than later she’ll be a member of something like the Young Avengers.
