A recent report claims that Mahershala Ali‘s Blade reboot from Marvel Studios no longer features Kit Harington‘s Black Knight.
The 2021 film Eternals starred Game of Thrones star Kit Harington in his first MCU role as Dane Whitman. Even so, the second post-credits scene of the movie focused on Harington’s persona and the Ebony Blade, establishing his Marvel future as the Black Knight.
But, Mahershala Ali’s cameo as Blade warned Whitman about the weapon in the post-credits stinger, which wasn’t only Harington’s.
Although a recent rumour says modifications have been made, this moment suggested that Harington’s character might be involved with Ali’s impending Blade revival.
Did Kit Harington’s role in Blade get “cut out” by Marvel?
Insider Jeff Sneider provided fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with both good and terrible news on John Rocha’s The Hot Mic programme.
Sneider claims that with Marvel Studios’ decision to postpone Blade, hire a new director, and rewrite the script, “things have gotten a little bit better”:
“Someone reached out to say that with ‘Blade,’ things have gotten a little bit better. Things have shaped up, the script is leaner and meaner and they cut out the fat, but the script I heard about was like 87 pages, like there wasn’t enough and they’d shaved it to the bone:”
Regrettably, “the fat” involved “Kit Harington’s Black Knight,” and Blade’s ties to the Eternals:
“What they’d cut out I heard is that ‘Blade’ was gonna tie-in with ‘Eternals’ and Kit Harrington’s Black Knight.”
The Black Knight is “not really involved in the ‘Blade’ thing anymore,” Sneider continued.
“Black Knight’s not really involved in the ‘Blade’ thing anymore. They may be recasting a few parts including maybe the daughter, was there like a 14-year-old girl? They may recast that.”
Is the best outcome for Blade No Black Night?
It’s not shocking to find that the script for Blade has been altered, but the removal of Dane Whitman’s Black Knight is.
In addition to addressing Dane Whitman in his first MCU appearance, Eternals VFX Supervisor Stephan Ceretti has stated that Ebony Blade would play a part in Blade.
Although though it could be detrimental to the whole MCU and its links to leave out the Eternals post-credits scene, it might be the wisest course of action for the 2024 movie.
Because to Blade’s numerous flaws, concentrating on Ali’s vampire hunter rather than other MCU characters and their tales will make the film a better whole.
It’s also possible that Ali made this choice because he wants “script changes all the time,” as Jeff Sneider stated in a prior report.
If that’s the case, it’s now unclear where Dane Whitman’s Black Knight stands and when his own MCU narrative will begin.
The Blade movie premieres on September 6, 2024.
