Avengers 5 Writer(Jeff Loveness) Confirms Unexpected Movie “Protagonist”

Jeff Loveness, the head writer of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, has officially revealed who would play the main “protagonist” in his next MCU collaboration film.

Avengers 5 Kang Dynasty cast

Avengers 5 will be released six years after its predecessor, Avengers: Endgame, and fans can’t wait to discover which characters will make up the film’s main cast as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes face off against Kang the Conqueror.

Three heroes were said to be joining the fray in this sequel in December 2022, and it was said that Captain America, Shang-Chi, and the Black Panther will be a part of the initial Avengers attack on Kang.

Most recently, Loveness hinted that Yelena Belova, played by Florence Pugh, may be the star of the film. But, it is still unclear who will be the main character in this sweeping Phase 6 tale.

The Kang Dynasty’s Estimated Lead in Avengers

Avengers 5, Kang

Writer of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania Jeff Loveness announced the identity of the lead character in his upcoming MCU project, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, during an interview with ComicBook.com’s Phase Zero podcast.

Loveness was asked by host Brandon Davis if Kang the Conqueror would follow the same route as Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. Avengers: Infinity War used Thanos as its “protagonist” (primary character).

When he embarks on his own crusade throughout the Multiverse, Kang “has got to be his own hero,” according to Loveness, who stated that he intends to script the movie with this idea in mind:

“That’s at least how I’m trying to write him. And, you know, we’ll see how the structure changes and how the flow works, but like, he’s got to be his own hero, and especially Kang the Conqueror and Ant-Man thought he was. Or, maybe he wouldn’t use the word ‘hero,’ but he’s on a crusade and he’s doing it for a reason. So secretly, it is a Kang movie, but, of course, you have to keep the forward gas going with the Avengers. But yeah, in the back of my mind it’s a Kang movie.”

In a 2019 Hollywood Unscripted interview, conducted by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, they discussed such notion.

It took “a few months,” according to McFeely, to settle on Thanos as the story’s major protagonist since there were concerns about whether this would ultimately succeed:

“We had to decide on a main character and a main through line. And it took us a few months. But finally somebody just said, ‘Oh, I think this is Thanos’s story. Oh, he’s the hero of the movie.’ Are we going to really do that?”

He added that since the “Avengers are the antagonists to Thanos” in that film, the Mad Titan had the chance for a narrative that was genuinely centred on his path and his own difficulties:

“Yeah, I think we’re gonna do that, so that the Avengers are the antagonists to Thanos. He gets a proper hero’s journey. And so that means he gets the time to tell you what he really thinks. He gets to sacrifice things that are important to him, people that are important to him to get what he wants. He’s challenged all along the way. That’s because of the paradigm we chose. And because Brolin is really good and the technology is amazing.”

How Kang, played by Jonathan Majors, will shine in Avengers 5

It’s hardly surprising to hear Jeff Loveness refer to Kang as the main protagonist of Avengers 5 in line with Avengers: Infinity War, especially given that the character’s name appears in the title.

The antagonist played by Jonathan Majors even has the benefit of having previously guest-starred in Episode 6 of Loki and starred in Ant-Man 3 as a villain for the entirety of the film. All of this occurs prior to his next significant part as Victor Timely in Loki Season 2, which gives him another Option to use to further develop his character before Avengers 5.

Because of Kang’s ability to live in so many different variations across the Universe, he should have the possibility to be even more potent than Thanos. Avengers 5 will undoubtedly leverage this as a key story point.

Loveness is hard at work making sure that Majors’ nemesis receives all the attention he deserves in this expansive story, even though fans just have a hint of the storyline aspects that will appear in this new sequel.

And because there are so many different Kangs in reality, he’ll be even more of a presence throughout the Multiverse Saga before the journey concludes in this upcoming team-up adventure.

On May 2, 2025, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will make its theatrical debut.
