The MCU's Daredevil: Born Again Is Looking Even More Like A Proper Daredevil Season 4

Daredevil Season 4 to be Released on Disney+ in the Form of Daredevil: Born Again?

Fans are curious as to whether Daredevil: Born Again is a stand-alone narrative or Daredevil Season 4, as one of Marvel Studios’ most anticipated Disney+ programs has also turned out to be the most mysterious.

The MCU's Daredevil: Born Again Is Looking Even More Like A Proper Daredevil Season 4

Marvel Studios remained silent on the canonical status of Netflix’s Daredevil series after Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio‘s MCU premieres and the 2022 announcement of Daredevil: Born Again.

This topic is more pertinent than ever in light of Marvel Studios’ recent decision to revamp its 18-episode television series.

Is Daredevil Season 4 Just Daredevil: Born Again?

Is Daredevil: Born Again Just Daredevil Season 4?

Charlie Cox responded to inquiries about whether the three seasons of Netflix’s Daredevil would be carried over into the MCU revival back in September of 2022.

The Daredevil: Born Again actor claims that the show was a “Season 1, not a Season 4:”

There hasn’t been any official announcement regarding the release of Daredevil Season 4 on Disney+ or whether it would adopt the “Born Again” storyline. However, fans have been eagerly speculating about the possibilities since Disney acquired the rights to the Daredevil character from Netflix.

“Daredevil: Born Again” is a renowned storyline in the Daredevil comics, written by Frank Miller and illustrated by David Mazzucchelli. It’s considered one of the character’s most iconic arcs. In this storyline, Daredevil’s secret identity is exposed by his arch-nemesis, Wilson Fisk (Kingpin), leading to a series of events that test Matt Murdock’s resilience and determination.

“You know, [Marvel Studios President] Kevin [Feige] has been very clear about it being Season 1, not a Season 4. So, it’s a whole new deal.”

Cox continued by listing the advantages of this “new deal,” including the opportunity “to tell some of the stories over:”

“And, in a way, what’s great about that is that we potentially get to tell some of the stories over and over again in the same way that they do in the comics, you know.”

Charlie Cox was right when he said that. That isn’t the case now, though.

Filming had started in March 2023, but the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in June caused production to come to a complete stop.

Marvel Studios decided to rework Born Again, reversing the course of Season 1 by tying it to the Netflix series and suspending the production despite having already recorded six episodes.

Because of this, Daredevil: Born Again seems more fitting for a Season 4 rather than a reboot and more of a revival.

Vincent D’Onofrio responded to The Hollywood Reporter when asked if the Kingpin from the MCU and the first Daredevil series was the same, saying, “I think it is” and that we are “for sure only speaking about it in terms of being directly connected:”

“I think it is. During our restart of all the creative on ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ all the creatives got together and said, ‘Look, this is how we’ve got to do it now.’ So we are for sure only speaking about it in terms of being directly connected to the original Daredevil, and that’s a great thing.”

Born Again’s connections to the original series were further demonstrated by D’Onofrio, who mentioned “all the collateral story that happened in those original three seasons” and the fact that the cast is filming the Disney+ series “with all that history:”

“It brings in a lot of cool stories and all the collateral story that happened in those original three seasons. So we now get to start this ‘Born Again’ situation with all of that history behind us and the outcome of all that history. So we’re all talking about ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ in those terms now.”

How Daredevil on Netflix Relates to Born Again

On-set images taken after production commenced in January 2024 have only served to validate D’Onofrio’s remarks and “all that history.”

Although Elden Henson from Foggy Nelson and Deborah Ann Woll from Daredevil, who played Karen Page, was not in Marvel Studios’ initial plans, the Netflix actors have already been sighted filming in New York.

Additionally, evidence points to another Marvel Netflix star, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, as perhaps one of Born Again’s primary protagonists.

Wilson Bethel is also confirmed to make a comeback as Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter from Bullseye.

With the release of Echo, Marvel Studios formally canonized both Daredevil and the Netflix Marvel collection, more evidence that Daredevil: Born Again is being handled as a fourth season.

The official MCU timeline for Disney+ now includes Daredevil, The Punisher, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Defenders. These events take place between I Am Groot and the conclusion of Phase 3.

What to anticipate from Born Again, Daredevil

Marvel Studios is not likely to refer to Daredevil: Born Again as a Season 4 series.

Granted, this makes sense because the program is currently a part of Marvel Studios. But since the show has taken a new turn and is acknowledging the past, viewers now know that this is a new chapter that will most likely start once Season 3 ends.

Daredevil: Born Again is anticipated to incorporate new characters in addition to well-known ones from the Man Without Fear’s first episode and anticipated MCU crossovers and appearances.

Pictures from the set already show Cox’s Matt Murdock kissing Margarita Levieva, an actress whose character is still a mystery.

More images have also verified the existence of White Tiger, a Marvel Comics character who will be making their MCU debut.

As development moves forward, fans should anticipate learning more details regarding the comeback.

Should Disney choose to adapt “Born Again” for Daredevil Season 4, it would likely delve into darker themes and complex character dynamics, much like the previous seasons. This storyline could provide ample opportunities for character development and intense action sequences, keeping audiences engaged throughout.

However, it’s important to note that until an official announcement is made by Marvel Studios or Disney, all information regarding the storyline and release remains speculative. Fans continue to hope for the return of Daredevil in some form, whether through a new season, a spin-off, or appearances in other Marvel Cinematic Universe projects on Disney+.

In the meantime, fans can revisit the existing seasons of Daredevil on Netflix or explore the vast library of Marvel content available on Disney+ while eagerly anticipating any updates on the future of the series.

The program will probably behave like a gentle reboot or new starting. Even if the entire series is a masterpiece, I believe you should watch at least season one to learn about the beginnings of Kingpin and Daredevil.

Is the actor portraying Daredevil legally blind?

Despite being sighted himself, actor Charlie Cox plays the blind superhero Daredevil/Matt Murdock. Cox was undoubtedly trained to play a blind guy authentically.
