A Marvel Studios official has stated that MCU fans should anticipate more horror films and Disney+ shows in the future.

This builds upon what viewers have already seen in Phase 4 of the MCU, particularly Werewolf by Night, but also Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and even portions of Moon Knight.

Blade is scheduled to start filming in May, and Marvel Studios implies that monsters and magic are here to stay now that Phase 5 is in full swing.

More Teasers Horror Films from Marvel Studios MCU Scare

On the D23: Inside Disney podcast, Marvel Studios Vice President of Production and Development Stephen Broussard hinted at upcoming MCU horror films, saying:

“If I have anything to do with it, Marvel will continue digging into the horror-verse, digging into the darker side.”

Paul Bettany’s unexpected success in the MCU was brought up when Broussard was questioned about the Werewolf by Night Marvel Studios Special Presentation from last October and whether it relates to Phase 5. He said,  “anything is possible in the MCU:”

“The answer is anything is possible in the MCU. The example I always like to cite is Paul Bettany was the voice of JARVIS in ‘Iron Man,’ just a disembodied robot voice and did an amazing job. All these years later, he’s at the Emmys, nominated for playing Vision in this sitcom deconstruction. If you had asked me back then if we would end up there today, I never would have told you that that was even in the realm of possibility.”

The Marvel Studios executive admitted that Werewolf By Night was meant to be a  “one-off holiday special.”  even though that wasn’t a “no.”

Yet, he also believes that its characters, such as Man-Thing, are “too cool to leave behind,” and he wants Marvel to keep delving into “the horror-verse” and its “darker side”:

“So the special itself was made as this one-off holiday special, stylistic exercise with our good friend Michael Giacchino. But those characters, I mean, come on. They’re too cool to leave behind. If I have anything to do with it, Marvel will continue digging into the horror-verse, digging into the darker side. There’s so many great characters from the comics from that world. Elsa, as you mentioned, was fantastic, as played by Laura. I love Gael [Garcia Bernal]. I’ve always been a big fan of his. People really responded to his relationship with Ted, AKA Man-Thing. So, great characters there and just a great world, a great milieu.”

In his final remarks, Broussard discussed how“place as a character”  is used in the MCU and said that such “darker corners”are “worth exploring:”

“I’m a big fan, if you look at the work that I’ve done individually here, of like, place as character. Whether it’s the TVA, or the world of magic, and certainly the darker corners of the Marvel universe feel just as rich and worth exploring.”

The producer of Werewolf by Night, Brian Gay, previously told The Direct that the Disney+ special pulled “back the corner of the MCU” and that these monsters would  “pop up again.”These claims are corroborated by Gay’s comments.

When More Marvel Monsters Will Arrive

Marvel Studios is not new to experimenting with genres, but what makes these assertions intriguing is that they show the horror subgenre is here to stay.

The most likely candidates for Marvel Studios to return monsters and horror-related elements right now are Blade and perhaps Agatha: Coven of Chaos.

Nevertheless, as Broussard put it, “anything is possible.”Now that the MCU is diving headfirst into the Multiverse.

Also, there’s a chance that future Marvel Studios Special Presentations, which have been successful so far, will be expanded.

In the months to come, perhaps, fans will learn more about the studio’s ambitions for Marvel’s monsters and upcoming projects.

Disney+ has Werewolf by Night accessible for streaming.
