a promising update regarding the release date for Doctor Strange 3

According to recent speculations, Marvel Studios plans to release Doctor Strange 3 as soon as possible.

Although Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness didn’t come out until May 2022, despite being a box office hit, the movie did more to set things up than it did to really achieve anything.

After the Multiverse Saga, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and Secret Wars were revealed, fans began to wonder about Stephen Strange’s participation and how his sequel might contribute.

The three-eyed sorcerer played by Benedict Cumberbatch may be appearing in his own threequel before the Avengers reunite, according to recent speculations.

Before Avengers 6, Doctor Strange 3?

Before Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and with Scott Derrickson back in the director’s chair, Marvel intends to make another Doctor Strange movie, according to source Jason Kane (Greatphase).

The scooper said in a tweet that “Doctor Strange 3, Kang Dynasty, and Eternals Sequel:” will be released in 2026.

“2026 Doctor Strange 3, Kang Dynasty and Eternals Sequel. They are exploring moving Avatar 4 up to November or delay it back a year to give Secret Wars December instead of pushing it to May 2027.”

Big Screen Leaks posted the following in support of this rumor’s specifics:

“Just heard this as well. Not sure about Derrickson returning though.”

Before Sam Raimi was hired, Scott Derrickson, who had previously helmed the 2016 film Doctor Strange, was set to oversee Doctor Strange 2.

There are presently no unnamed release slots before Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, despite several sources claiming that a Doctor Strange 3 would happen sooner rather than later.

Therefore, as these speculations imply, delays would be required if Marvel wanted to cram in Doctor Strange 3 or any other MCU movies before Avengers 5.

It’s important to remember that James Cameron has previously said that Avatar 4 may be postponed until 2027, which would allow for more scheduling changes and a profitable December 2026 release date.

Additionally, Charlize Theron hinted that she “had some work to do“ for her Clea character in Doctor Strange 2 back in October.

Is There a New MCU Theatrical Slate Coming?

The fact that Doctor Strange would make a comeback on the big screen was never in question.

Kevin Feige, CEO of Marvel Studios, praised Benedict Cumberbatch as “the anchor of the Marvel Cinematic Universe” before the release of Multiverse of Madness.

Following the unanimous endorsement and the release of Doctor Strange 2, Cumberbatch hinted at the “realy exciting future” of the character and said there are “a lot more adventures I want to have with him.”

Prior to Avengers 5 and 6, it was unclear if Strange would appear in the MCU at all.

It seems likely that Marvel would want a Doctor Strange movie to lead into Kang Dynasty, even if it means delays, given Strange’s connections to the Multiverse and his position as a leader.

If so, MCU projects other than Avengers 5 and potentially 6 would also be delayed.

There is already growing evidence that Marvel wants to postpone numerous MCU Disney+ shows in addition to the other movies, which would presumably be postponed.

Regarding Scott Derrickson, his involvement in the movie wouldn’t be unexpected either, especially in light of how poorly Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange 2 was received.

When Kang the Conqueror’s first MCU movie, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, arrives, Marvel Studios may make a few announcements regarding its revamped slate in the upcoming weeks.
