Doc Ock’s Surprising Return in 2023 Marvel Film Starring Alfred Molina

It seems that fans should also anticipate Multiversal Spider-Man antagonists, such as Doc Ock played by Alfred Molina, in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in addition to a Multiverse of Spider-People.

Doc Ock

One of the greatest comic book movie performances ever has long been credited to Molina’s portrayal of Doc Ock in the 2004 film Spider-Man 2. His return in the 2021 film Spider-Man: No Way Home served to further build anticipation for the MCU picture.

However, Molina believes that three is the ideal number when it comes to making appearances in Spider-Man franchises.

Doc Ock Makes a Comeback in Across the Spider-Verse by Alfred Molina

Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock made an unexpected appearance in a new trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Molina’s voice can be heard saying, “Hello, Peter,” just as he did in Spider-Man: No Way Home, around the 0:20 mark.

This may be the reason why, in response to Vanity Fair’s inquiry about whether he will ever reprise his Marvel character, Molina said, “I can neither confirm nor deny.”

While Miles does run encounter a different tentacled doctor in the trailer—who is not Doctor Olivia ‘Liv’ Octavius from encounter the Spider-Verse—the voice is undoubtedly Molina’s.

In fact, this Doc Ock looks more like the character from the original comic books than the villain played by Alfred Molina in Spider-Man 2 or Spider-Man: No Way Home from 2021.

See the complete trailer down below; Molina’s Doc Ock voice may be heard at the 20-second mark.

Will Live-Action Spider-Man Villains Appear in Spider-Verse?

It only makes sense for different web-slinging villains to make a cameo in a movie that features nearly every Spider-Man from the Multiverse.

If true, that might explain why viewers are seeing one character while hearing Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus.

Additionally, this isn’t the first time MCU events have been alluded to in Across the Spider-Verse. Spider-Man 2099, a reference to Doctor Strange, Tom Holland‘s webslinger, and what happened in No Way Home, was shown in one of the movie’s initial trailers.

It’s unclear whether Molina will play Doc Ock or any other live-action Spider-Man in Across the Spider-Verse. However, this particular teaser did show the Spot interacting with the real environment, indicating that the movie isn’t just an animated one and perhaps teasing future ones.

On Friday, June 2, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse debuts in theatres.
