In Deadpool 3, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool will link up with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, and he has made a pledge that should allay fans’ concerns.
While Reynolds and Jackman’s announcement of Deadpool and Wolverine’s alliance in the threequel broke the internet, there were some qualms among Marvel aficionados, especially after 2017’s Logan wrapped up the X-Men hero’s tale with a stunning arc.
Given that nobody “wanted to play with” Logan’s ending, Jackman has previously stated that Deadpool 3 will take place before its events.
Reynolds will now provide fresh information regarding Wolverine’s thrilling comeback.
The MCU debut of Wolverine is hyped by Ryan Reynolds.
Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool, discussed how Deadpool 3 will handle Hugh Jackman’s comeback as Wolverine in an interview with The Wrap.
Reynolds believes that the “collision” of Deadpool and Wolverine will be worth the wait despite acknowledging that the threequel’s tone would be a “tightrope walk”:
“I believe we are walking a tightrope. In this case, though, you have a collision of two really famous characters who live in the Marvel Ancillary Universe [laughs] — we’re in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at this point. I mean most of these movies are always a tightrope walk of tone.
Reynolds assured that viewers will witness a Deadpool and Wolverine who “feels very real” when questioned about the tone of the film.
Finding a way to serve both of these characters that feels really true to both of them is really sort of the challenge, and I believe these two wrongs will actually form a right in a fairly fantastic manner.
Reynolds’ remarks confirmed what co-writer of Deadpool 3 Rhett Reese had said before about Marvel Studios enabling them to “do what we do”:
“It almost feels like donning a cosy old sweater. Marvel has really supported us in keeping the tenor and the overall vision that we have for it. They have been really helpful and hands-off, but they have also allowed us to do what we do. In essence, it’s just been enjoyable. We’re back to being crazy scientists in the lab. We are really appreciative that we get the opportunity to write Deadpool once more because he is our favourite and the character we will always be most closely linked with. Thus, it’s great. It is comparable to returning to school after a summer break. It’s a lot of fun.”
Reynolds has already made a comment about preserving Wolverine’s reputation.
The actor originally shared his delight about working with Jackman on Deadpool 3 while appearing as a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon:
Fallon: “You and Hugh are collaborating on Deadpool 3.”
Reynolds: “I agree. Sure, I am. I’m ecstatic about that. It’s impossible that it is occurring.
Then he pledged to “fully defend Logan’s legacy in the manner in which it was left off:
Fallon: “That’s really enjoyable. However, Wolverine—whom he’s bringing—
Reynolds: “–Bringing in Wolverine, yeah. We figured out a way to do it that Hugh Jackman approved and Kevin Feige approved, where we’re completely protecting the legacy of Logan, the way it was left off. We wouldn’t mess with that. And I’m really excited about it. As I’ve gotten a little bit older, I sort of want to– really, I’m lucky that I get to work in this industry and particularly incredibly fortunate that I get to work in it this long. But I really want to work with people I either– that are either immensely talented or people that I love and I’m genuinely best friends with. Unfortunately, Hugh does not qualify as either of those. But I am excited ’cause I’m a Logan fan.”
How Will Wolverine’s Legacy Be Safeguarded in Deadpool 3?
Given that Hugh Jackman portrayed Wolverine for an illustrious run in Fox’s X-Men movies, Ryan Reynolds’ pledge to preserve the character’s heritage is extremely appropriate.
Making this happen would need a concerted effort from the whole cast, including Shawn Levy, Reynolds, and Jackman as well as the film’s excellent writers.
Reynolds’ claim that he would be “extraordinarily accurate” in his portrayal of Wolverine hints that the character will be the same as in previous renditions, but with a new component that would fit in with the MCU.
The “angrier, caustic, grumpy” Wolverine that fans have come to know and love will return, according to Jackman, who previously revealed how the character will act in Deadpool 3.
Although Wolverine’s humour was previously hinted at in Fox’s X-Men films, Jackman’s interpretation of the character in Deadpool 3 may lean further toward comedy to keep up with Wade Wilson’s antics. Even said, the threequel may depict Logan as solemn and expressionless while Wade cracks jokes.
The release date for Deadpool 3 is November 8, 2024.
