Another MCU superhero has reportedly been confirmed to join Charlie Cox‘s Matt Murdock in Disney+‘s Daredevil: Born Again.
Marvel’s Man Without Fear will make his solo film debut in Daredevil: Born Again, and the 18-episode season’s star Charlie Cox has already hinted at possible MCU cameos.
The programme just added Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, another Marvel superhero, as New York City’s production got under way.
Unexpected MCU Superhero Returns in Daredevil on Disney+ (Rumor)
Jeff Sneider of Above the Line said on The Hot Mic podcast that he has learned that Alaqua Cox’s character Echo will appear in Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+.
Many people won’t be surprised by this story given that The Hollywood Reporter recently claimed that Daredevil, played by Charlie Cox, and Kingpin, played by Vincent D’Onofrio, will both appear in many episodes of Echo and play “important” parts.
The Hawkeye spin-off will purportedly build up the events of Born Again which sees the return of both Cox’s Matt Murdock and D’Onofrio’s Wilson Wisk.
The two were both visible in the Echo teaser, which Marvel Studios’ D23 panel participants saw in secret in September 2022.
The six-episode Echo now has a reported release date of early 2024 after delays caused by a problematic development; this appears to be right before Deredevil: Born Again begins its 18-episode season next Spring.
The Place of Echo in Daredevil: Born Again
With the recent debut of a new comic team-up series featuring the two street-level heroes, Marvel has recently made a point of fostering the relationship between Daredevil and Echo. This is probably a deliberate setup for Matt Murdock and Maya Lopez to appear together in Born Again.
After Hawkeye ends, Echo has a feud with Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin after learning that he was to blame for her father’s passing. The fact that Daredevil already has a beef with the New York crime lord makes it ideal for them to team up with Echo and Born Again to take the criminal down.
Despite the likelihood that Echo and Daredevil will form a heroic alliance, it’s unlikely that their connection will take on a love overtone as it did in the comics because Lopez is only in her twenties and Murdock appears to be approaching 40 in the MCU. This would create an odd age gap.
Echo may look to Daredevil for guidance as she transitions from Tracksuit Mafia commander to street-level superhero. The Man Without Fear may even teach her some new martial arts moves while also teaching her how to overcome her deafness, just like he did with his blindness.
Although it’s not yet obvious how significant Echo will be in Disney+’s Daredevil: Born Again, it’s not hard to imagine her appearing in at least a few episodes. Since that Born Again has a season with a record-breaking 18 episodes, there will be plenty of opportunity for many characters to appear and disappear throughout the course of the show.
In the spring of 2024, Disney+ is anticipated to release Daredevil: Born Again.
