Daredevil on Disney+: Fresh Update Fuels Luke Cage Arrival Rumors

There have been rumours that Luke Cage from Mike Colter‘s Netflix series would appear in Daredevil: Born Again.

With the announced returns of Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, and Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in Daredevil: Born Again, the Disney+ series is well-positioned to attract a number of the performers from Netflix’s Marvel productions in the main MCU. Even the possibility of Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones returning has been discussed.

Although he also said he’d be “open” to returning in an MCU revival, Netflix’s Luke Cage actor Mike Colter earlier said he views his Marvel part as being “in the rearview mirror and doesn’t see his prospective return as plausible.

The actor even expressed his reluctance to work with Marvel again, saying that he is “quite content doing what [he] does” as he pursues new acting opportunities in movies like the just-released action movie Plane alongside Gerard Butler.

The new filming location for Daredevil fuels speculation about Luke Cage

After Daredevil: Born Again’s filming in New York City, the Disney+ series’ filming is anticipated to move to Harlem, the fabled residence of Marvel hero Luke Cage.

The Curious Uptowner said that “no parking” signs surfaced in Harlem, indicating that sequences for the show will begin filming on Monday, March 13, and that additional filming will take place on Tuesday, March 14.

Many fans are now persuaded that Michael Colter’s Luke Cage will join Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher in repeating their Netflix roles as part of the Marvel Studios reboot due to Born Again’s most recent shooting location.

There was very little filming in Harlem for the original Daredevil series, which was filmed in several New York City sites to serve as Hell’s Kitchen. Given that the majority of the series takes place in the Upper Manhattan neighbourhood, the majority of the Luke Cage Netflix series’ shooting took place in Harlem.

Even knowing they shouldn’t get their hopes up, 1stmoviemaster noted on a Reddit post that they are hoping this indicates Luke Cage’s return:

“I know I shouldn’t get my hopes up on something that probably won’t happen, but I’m going to go ahead and pretend this means Luke Cage is back.”

Luke Cage is the most well-known Marvel character to be from Harlem, thus when odiin1731 remarked that they “wish there was an MCU character that was from there,” they were undoubtedly alluding to Luke Cage.

Luke Cage’s catchphrase, “Sweet Christmas!” which is from the books that Colter frequently used in his Netflix rendition of the character, was simply dropped by MarvelManiac45213.

In Daredevil: Born Again, Javierrodrigu73 hypothesised that Luke Cage and Jessica Jones might be married. The two were famously married in the comics and did had a number of love meetings in their Netflix appearances:

“Maybe Jessica and Luke are MARRIED IN ‘DAREDEVIL BORN AGAIN’??”

Recently, in late February, amid rumours of both Defenders superheroes making an MCU comeback, Luke Cage actor Michael Colter and Jessica Jones actress Krysten Ritter were spotted together.

As the  “bare minimum,” @Pollos Hernandy said on Twitter that they hoped “they at least namedrop Luke Cage.”

“I hope they at least namedrop Luke Cage.  I’m asking for the bare minimum here”

In Daredevil: Born Again, is Marvel bringing back Netflix’s Defenders?

Given that the 18-episode Born Again season is scheduled to begin production in December 2023, Marvel Studios will have plenty of time to include as many of these characters as it like. Given that Daredevil is by far the most well-known of these heroes, his solo series is the ideal platform for repopularizing the others.

There were reports that Jessica Jones would be included, however because to scheduling issues, Bernthal’s Punisher ended up playing her. Jones may not have made it into the Daredevil series, but this shows that Netflix is interested in bringing back more of the Defenders.

Two of the five main heroes from Netflix’s Marvel series have already been announced for Born Again. The futures of Luke Cage and Iron Fist are currently in doubt, especially with the return of Daredevil, Punisher, and Jessica Jones.

Luke Cage fans should not get their hopes up despite Born Again filming shots in Harlem appearing to be promising for an appearance. While places are routinely utilised to stand in for others, the fact that filming is going place in Harlem does not even imply that these are for scenes set there.

Nonetheless, Mike Colter still appears open to returning, and Marvel Studios has already brought back a number of the Netflix characters, so the door is obviously not shut for Luke Cage. It’s only a matter of when and whether Colter will play the part in the MCU’s inevitable desire to use the character.

Disney+ currently has Daredevil: Born Again scheduled for release in the spring of 2024.
