At last, Daniel Craig’s Marvel role has been announced.

Elizabeth Olsen finally revealed in a new interview who Daniel Craig was meant to play in the movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness from the previous year.

Since the movie’s premiere, there has been no official confirmation of who Craig was intended to play in the MCU sequel, leaving his excised role a mystery.

A concept drawing of Craig as the Thor-related comics character Balder the Brave appeared last autumn from a concept artist working on the movie, although it was noted the idea got “no further than [the] watercolour” image that was shared.

Even a deleted scene that purportedly showed the character lying dead on the floor of the Illuminati Headquarters was shown to fans, but no further information was provided.

Elizabeth Olsen, who plays the Scarlet Witch, claimed Daniel Craig was in fact going to play Balder the Brave in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in an interview with Happy Sad Confused’s Josh Horowitz.

Yes, that’s what I thought was going to happen,” Olsen responded when Craig’s portrayal of Balder was mentioned, adding that she “saw the art:”

Horowitz: “I asked him about playing Balder the Brave.”

Olsen: “Yes, that’s what I thought was going to happen.”

Horowitz: “And where’s Daniel Craig?”

Olsen: “Yeah, I saw the art. They made a costume. They had a design.”

This is in contrast to Craig’s prior denial that he was a part of the movie, which he made when Horowitz questioned him about his rumoured appearance in Doctor Strange 2. Craig said, “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” in response.

What became to Daniel Craig’s appearance in Doctor Strange 2?

After months of rumours, there it is: the first concrete evidence that Daniel Craig was really cast as Balder the Brave in Multiverse of Madness.

But what actually happened must be asked? Why was Daniel Craig’s role finally removed if Marvel Studios has A-list talent like him lined up?

There could have been a variety of causes involved. A lot of draughts, rewrites, and reshoots occurred during the course of the production of Multiverse of Madness, which has come to be known for its rocky path to its theatrical release.

It is possible that Craig’s portrayal of Balder, despite the fact that it appears his scenes were only ever filmed with a stand-in, was originally a member of the enigmatic Illuminati squad but was switched out for one of the other Multiversal appearances that made it into the final cut.

Disney+ now offers the ability to stream Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
