by A recent report claimed that The Marvels, also known as Captain Marvel 2, was in “chaos” within Marvel Studios before its release in November 2023.
After receiving mixed reviews for Phase 4, Marvel Studios is apparently changing its Phase 5 and Phase 6 plans significantly behind the scenes. This has caused numerous MCU delays, the most recent of which occurred only a few weeks ago when The Marvels’ release date was moved from July 28 to November 10.
Of course, this wasn’t even the first postponement for the Captain Marvel sequel; from February 17 to July 28, the film already switched dates with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania last April. Clearly, this caused many fans to worry, especially in light of the poor reception to Ant-Man 3.
Rumor: Problems with the Captain Marvel 2 sequel
According to his sources, The Marvels may be in jeopardy, said Above the Line’s Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic Podcast. He described the development as “just a shitshow” and “kind of chaos.”
Sneider observed that the latest postponement from July 28 to November 10 was brought on by this troubling trend. The c hange already represented the second postponement for the film, as Captain Marvel 2 had already switched release dates with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on February 17, taking over the July 28 date.
The Captain Marvel actress Brie Larson was “upset that this movie is called The Marvels“ he continued, referring to the collaboration between Carol Danvers, Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau, rather than Captain Marvel 2.
The announcement comes after The Wrap reported that the delay was necessary to address some of the sequel’s major problems and give additional time for post-production, maybe to enable VFX enhancements.
Why Captain Marvel 2 Fans Shouldn’t Be Alarmed
Although Sneider reportedly mentioned problems with Brie Larson when the actress argued with Monica Rambeau actress Teyonah Parris on set, it is still unclear exactly what issues The Marvels is encountering. Given that the two will star in the movie with Ms. Marvel, played by Iman Vellani, that clash definitely made for a challenging production.
In spite of the fact that VFX quality has been a recurring issue among fans, many of the MCU’s most recent releases have drawn criticism for a variety of reasons. Perhaps it will be a focus in the upcoming months to avoid criticism such to that experienced by Ant-Man 3 given earlier reports that said the delay was necessary to allow for additional post-production time.
However, Marvel Studios might be preparing to reshoot the scene at some time this year to fix any issues that the argument between Larson and Parris would have caused during production.
On her filmography, filmmaker Nia DaCosta had only one significant release: the well-received slasher movie Candyman from 2021. Although Marvel Studios obviously hired her for a reason, her lack of expertise, particularly in the big-budget game, may have contributed to this perceived “chaos“.
In any event, Marvel Studios and The Marvels crew have plenty of time to address the sequel’s faults, provided that none of the major issues are too essential to the plot, the performances, or anything else.
On November 10, The Marvels opens in theatres.
