One of Disney‘s new 100th anniversary presentations at Disney California Adventure is a reimagined rendition of the Avengers: Endgame gateways sequence.
One of the most stirring scenes in the MCU’s history, the portals sequence from the 2019 film Avengers: Endgame is also one of the most popular scenes in recent memory.
In recent years, the Disney Parks have emerged as a brand-new venue for both experiencing and celebrating the MCU.
And now, Disney California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort has discovered a way for viewers to see Endgame’s biggest moment night after night as part of the celebration of Disney’s 100th anniversary.
Disney Commemorates Anniversary with Portals for Avengers: Endgame
Marvel said that World of Color – ONE, which featured a replica of the portals scene from Avengers: Endgame, had its official debut at Disney California Adventure on January 27.
The Disneyland Resort’s newest iteration of its evening light and fountain display, World of Color – ONE, also makes use of giant water screens, fog, geysers, and fire.
Following Pixar’s Soul, The Lion King, Moana, and Star Wars-inspired show portions, a number of Doctor Strange’s flickering portals start to appear on the show’s enormous water screens and even on the park’s 150-foot ferris wheel in the distance.
After the audience hears Sam Wilson’s “On your left,” Alan Silvestri’s Avengers theme starts to build, and other MCU heroes—including Steven Rogers’ Captain America—appear through the portals and fling their shields into the audience.
Later in the sequence, other Endgame characters are highlighted, including Black Panther, who is heard shouting “Wakanda Forever!” in tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman.
A final group ensemble culminates with a solo appearance from Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, and the Hulk before Thor concludes the episode with lightning effects from Mjolnir.
“Avengers Assemble“is, in a way, the essence” of this new programme, claims Disney Live Entertainment executive Jennifer Magill:
“For World of Color – ONE, the Avengers were a natural fit for the story we are telling. The whole concept of “Avengers Assemble” is, in a way, the essence of our show’s theme. One drop can create a ripple, and the strength of many drops can create a wave of change.”
Magill noted that the Endgame portals were “iconic entrances” that “could translate into our world” while considering how to include the MCU cast in the show:
“As we worked to figure out how to introduce the Avengers section, we quickly realized that the portals were such iconic entrances and something we could translate into our world perfectly. Our design team had so much fun using lighting, lasers, and fountains in new ways to introduce our Avenger heroes.”
Review The Avengers Assemble
Since this evening production was developed to commemorate Disney’s 100th anniversary, it only seems fitting that it should also honour one of the Walt Disney Company’s most significant historical events.
It also makes sense given that World of Color – ONE’s area of the park is adjacent to Avengers Campus, which has a number of MCU attractions and experiences.
Even while the emphasis of the presentation is Avengers: Endgame, it does feature a few other MCU characters and situations, like Vision, the Vol. 2 Guardians of the Galaxy, and even Hawkeye’s Kate Bishop.
Speaking of which, Disney has stated that Black Panther and Hawkeye’s end credit sequences on Disney+ served as inspiration for the aesthetic style of the programme and in especially the Hawkeye sequence.
Currently playing at Disney California Adventure (weather permitting) is World of Color – ONE. Disney+ is currently streaming Avengers: Endgame.
