The working title for the Black Panther spin-off series on Disney+, which is situated in the Wakandan realm, has reportedly surfaced in a recent rumor.

Shuri, Disney Plus

From the beginning of 2021, when director Ryan Coogler‘s Proximity Media production firm signed a five-year exclusive television agreement with Disney, fans have known that a Black Panther spin-off exploring Wakanda would be coming to the MCU on Disney+.

The spin-off, however, has been discovered to be “not as far along as people want it to be”  as the Marvel Studios and the director continue to float ideas because Coogler’s attention has been wholly focused on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Many spin-offs are reportedly being created by Marvel Studios and Proximity Media for streaming, with Ironheart serving as the first direct sequel to Black Panther 2. At least two additional series are anticipated, including one that expands on Wakanda and an origin spinoff series” for Danai Gurira’s Okoye.

One of Marvel Studios’ Black Panther Disney+ spin-off series is reportedly being developed under the working title of Golden City under a production business called Maglev Train Productions that was initially registered in Summer 2021, according to an exclusive report from The Cosmic Circus.

The name of the production firm is derived from the underground Wakandan Maglev Railway system. The Golden Tribe, also known as Birnin Zana, established Wakanda’s capital city, which bears their name.

Earlier rumors claimed Marvel Studios and Black Panther filmmaker Ryan Coogler were working together on several spin-offs for Disney+. Proximity Media, the film’s production firm, has a “five-year overall exclusive television deal” with Disney that started in February 2021.

Each project at Marvel Studios is developed by a different production company, and each film, television show, and special typically has a working title that will not be the final title of the release. For instance, Blind Faith Productions is producing Daredevil: Born Again under the working title Out the Kitchen.

What will the Disney+ spin-off of Black Panther be about?

Over the years, various Marvel Studios films have gone under some odd working titles, many of which have little to do with the plot or the characters. Hence, it’s not appropriate to assume that the Black Panther Disney+ spin-off, whose working title is Golden City, will center on the nation’s capital.

T’Challa, Shuri, and Ramonda are members of the Golden Tribe, which established the Golden City in its original form. Whilst it is unlikely that any of the typical Black Panther leads will appear in the spin-off, M’Baku might given that he appears to have ascended to the Wakandan throne following Black Panther 2.

It’s interesting to note that Bashenga, the first Black Panther and King of Wakanda, is who the Golden Tribe was founded around. Many fans have been demanding for Bashenga to star in his own Disney+ prequel series. Just a few months ago, stunning fan-made concept art for a Bashenga series starring John Boyega from Star Wars went viral.

the project was “not as far along as people want it to be” and Ryan Coogler and the team were still in communication about some  “great ideas.” back in November. So, it’s possible that the series’ premise hasn’t even been finalized.

Fans shouldn’t assume that just because the production business for the spin-off was registered for the first time in the summer of 2021, that means the concept has already been in serious development for two years. Coogler’s schedule has only lately begun to open up since his sole attention has been on Ironheart and Black Panther 2.

There is no release date yet for the Disney+ spin-off series of Black Panther.
