The super-powered sequel Black Panther 2, which introduced the world to the next generation of the Wakandan hero, is ready to end its run in theatres around the globe.
This Ryan Coogler-helmed hit has undergone several changes since it was first released. Numerous rumours have surfaced regarding the alterations made to the movie, both those connected to Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman’s tragic loss and those unrelated.
According to a recent report, “T’Challa and Shuri [being] Black Panther alongside each other” in the initial ideas for the epic, which Marvel eventually scrapped.
Now that the Wakanda Forever screenplay has been public, further alterations that must have occurred during the Wakandan epic’s filming have been found.
Easter Eggs from Black Panther 2 that were abandoned
A complete screenplay for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever surfaced online, revealing two MCU Easter eggs.
Callbacks to the Iron Man trilogy and Captain Marvel were initially planned for Black Panther 2, according to a draught for the movie that was discovered on Reddit’s r/screenwriting community.
The fictitious business Roxxon and the covert government programme Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S. are mentioned in a conversation between Everett Ross (Martin Freeman), Shuri (Letitia Wright), and Okoye (Danai Gurira).
The discussion between the three seems to be a different interpretation of their discussion while trying to identify the scientist who created the vibranium-detecting device at the movie’s heart.
When Ross mentions Riri Williams, the machine’s youthful inventor, Shuri and Okoye begin to make a list of potential projects this great mind may be involved in, asking questions like “Roxxon then?” and “Project PEGASUS? “.
Everett Ross: “Not just careful, you gotta be fast. The US needs another machine and this kid is the only one who knows how to make one. So, they’re coming for her.”
Shuri: “Kid?”
Okoye: “We’ll be discreet.”
Shuri: “I bet the scientist is working for DARPA.”
Ross: “It’s not DARPA.”
Shuri: “Roxxon then?”
Ross: “Nope.”
Shuri: “Project PEGASUS?”
Ross: “You’re way off. It wasn’t a government contract.”
Shuri (at a loss): “Where then…?”
If you don’t remember, Roxxon Oil Corporation, Loki, and Agents of SHIELD all appeared in the first three Iron Man movies. The final Iron Man 3 battle between the Iron Legion and the soldiers of the Extremis, led by Guy Pearce’s Aldrich Killian, took place on a Roxxon oil drilling platform that had been impounded.
And as for Project PEGASUS, the enigmatic government organisation appears in the 2019 film Captain Marvel (also known as Project Potential Energy Group – Alternate Sources – United States).
Before having her memories wiped and starting her training as a Kree warrior, Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers served as a test pilot for the PEGASUS team, which was given by the US government the duty of attempting to harness the Tesseract’s power.
Yet Another Change in Black Panther 2
It is amusing to examine a script and search for adjustments like this. Obviously, Ryan Coogler‘s most recent Marvel film did not include this discussion in the final edit, but why?
Similar dialogue occurs in the movie moments before Dominque Thorne is formally introduced as Riri Williams, although this exchange does not contain the MCU Easter eggs.
Why, therefore, did Roxxon and PEGASUS not end up in the film? These references to previous MCU films appear to be unimportant throwbacks; they frequently occur in this franchise.
This structural framework is what keeps the Marvel Studios formula in motion. Even though the tale now being told spans the whole Multiverse, it is these seemingly little nuances that give the series a sense of reality.
The conversation simply did not function when it was eventually shown to the camera, which is what most likely happened in this instance. When the performers were using it, it could have seemed a touch forced, thus the sequence was altered for the final edit.
