In a recent interview, James Gunn hinted at the potential significance of Adam Warlock, played by Will Poulter in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Since the premiere of the first film in the series, fans have pleaded for Adam Warlock to show up. Sadly, Marvel Studios didn’t actually prepare the ground for his entry until Vol. 2.

After six years, Adam Warlock is now almost ready to premiere on television. How much of a part will the character ultimately play in the MCU and what precisely is he up to?

The Role of Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3

James Gunn, the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, recently spoke with Empire Magazine about Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock and his significant role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Warlock is “definitely not a good guy” according to Gunn, who originally discussed the character, and when he first appears, he “does not understand life very well:”

“But he’s definitely not a good guy. What we’re seeing is the infant form of Warlock, newly out of the cocoon, and he does not understand life very well. He’s basically a baby.”

Poulter was chosen by the director during casting because he has “the dramatic chops and the comedic chops

“People online were saying, ‘Oh, Tom Cruise should be Adam Warlock’… I wanted somebody who was youthful, and I wanted the person who had the dramatic chops and the comedic chops, not only for this movie but for what Marvel will use Adam Warlock for in the future.”

As a noteworthy hint, Gunn said that “[Warlock] could become this really important character [in the MCU] .”

So what may this future actually look like?

It’s critical to highlight a crucial aspect of Warlock’s persona—The Magus—since Gunn has already alluded to the character’s villainy.

Adam Warlock’s Dark Side

Adam Warlock’s evil side, The Magus, often known as the future iteration of what Warlock is destined to become, is a crucial aspect of his character.

The character’s corrupted side has sometimes surfaced in the comics, always causing significant problems. He is immensely powerful, comparable to Kang the Conqueror and Thanos in strength. This just makes problems worse.

As a result, even though Adam Warlock may strike out at the Guardians, he will ultimately join their cause. But when that occurs, the narrative will very surely begin to include references to Magus.

If one of the post-credits tags for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 suggests Warlock’s evil side, viewers shouldn’t be shocked. Surprisingly, Sentry’s issues are fairly similar to Warlock’s darker elements.

Sentry was allegedly going to be the bad guy in The Thunderbolts movie. The figure, who resembles Superman in certain ways, also has a shadowy side known as the Void.

Both the Void and the Magus have identical strengths and weaknesses compared to their other parts. If both are being introduced at the same time, the MCU could attempt to link the two in some way.

What Place Will Warlock Appear Next?

Where precisely will Adam Warlock appear next, then?

There aren’t any clear options, if he survives until Vol. 3—which he surely will.

Perhaps Kang’s goals and ambitions are such that Magus poses such a serious danger to Warlock’s existence and future. Sentry’s Void might be analysed using the same theory.

The Multiversal Conqueror could be attempting to shield all of reality from Magus appearing and wreaking unfathomable destruction.

This would give Kang the same commitment that Thanos had when he actually felt he was carrying out the necessary actions, and it would allow the MCU enough chance to develop Adam Warlock.

But as he develops and evolves, it’s probable that Warlock will follow the road of heroism until the Magus unveils his face. He will probably also appear in other significant cosmic journeys.

For instance, Warlock would have a great opportunity to reappear in The Eternals 2 if it is produced. Then there is the inevitable successor group of the Guardians, of which he will probably be a member.

On May 5 of this year, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be released in theatres.
