A Star of Spider-Verse 2 Confirms a tonne of Late Changes

Major actors from Spider-Man by Sony Pictures include: The movie had a number of last-minute modifications, as shown in Across the Spider-Verse 2.

Spider-Verse 2

Into the Spider-Verse 2 finally hits theatres on June 2 after being postponed more than six months from its initial release date in October 2022.

But, there must have been a cause for such a significant delay on this much awaited sequel, as many delighted fans were disappointed by the news.

Following that, it was said that the animated movie was having production problems because “they scrapped a bunch of stuff and went back,” according to podcast host Matthew Belloni.” It’s (Phil) Lord & (Chris) Miller, and they kind of write as they go,” he continued.

Two of the actors from the movie have recently provided fresh information regarding the last-minute changes.

Spider-Verse 2 Adjustments at the Last Minute

Oscar Isaac's Spider-Man 2099

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse 2 actors Oscar Isaac (Spider-Man 2099 / Miguel O’Hara) and Hailee Steinfeld (Spider-Gwen/Gwen Stacy) talked about some of the last-minute alterations to the Into the Spider-Verse sequel in the most recent issue of Empire Magazine.

The fact that many of these characters are disguised makes it easier to change lines right up to the last second, according to Isaac. He continued by making fun of “the amount of experimentation” in the movie:

Q: “Was there a lot of last-minute line-tweaking with your character?”

Isaac: “Yes. It helps that a lot of these characters are masked, so you can keep changing lines right up to the last second [laughs]. For something as seemingly rigid as animation, the amount of experimentation we got to do on this movie was really fun. Their [Lord and Miller’s] way of working is a beautiful combination of finding pathos and humour, but also making fun of it and being willing to try anything.”

Phil Lord and Chris Miller” [a]re such perfectionists: I really admire that:” remarked Steinfeld, adding that it is “the finest moment” to witness this process of last-minute changes.

Q: “Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s process is one of tweaking lines right up until the very last moment . What’s that been like for you?”

Steinfeld: “You have the best time. Watching Lord and Miller do their thing is a show in itself. It’s amazing to see them coming up with stuff in the moment, making it funnier, more emotional, more grounded. You’ll walk into a recording session, like, ‘This [movie] is coming out in a couple of weeks, guys. What are we doing here?!’ But every time you walk out, you feel an improvement has been made. They’re such perfectionists: I really admire that.”

Interestingly, a new report from industry insider Jeff Sneider claims that the alterations outlined here could surround a cameo by Tom Holland, the MCU’s Spider-Man. Holland’s involvement in the movie has not yet been verified, so they are only rumours.

“I’d heard that part of the delay of [‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’] was about getting Tom Holland in that movie, and that one of the dimensions that Miles could end up going to is a live-action dimension with Tom Holland’s [Spider-Man].”

Changes: How Will They Affect Spider-Verse 2?

Whatever the adjustments, the fact that they were still being made up until the very end of the movie’s production shows how much care and attention to detail went into Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse 2.

Lord and Miller, as Steinfeld put it, “[a]re such perfectionists,” so it’s encouraging that they’re making sure every last element is up to their standards before moviegoers see the new release.

With the lengthy wait, which probably made fans eager to see the movie, plus the fact that it comes after the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, anticipation for this sequel is strong. As a result, it is encouraging to see the perfectionism that is apparent given how much the movie keeps changing late in the game.

On June 2, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse 2 opens in theatres.
