In a recent clip from Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, Chris Hemsworth‘s Thor was mentioned, which is exciting news for MCU fans.
After making his debut as a distinct Variant, He Who Remains, in Season 1 of 2021’s Loki, Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror has the difficult task of introducing the MCU’s next major bad guy in Ant-Man 3. With two Avengers films in Phase 6 still to come, this new film will be the next step in Kang’s quest for Multiversal supremacy, and Majors already has ambitions to compete with the biggest and finest the MCU has to offer.
When asked which superhero he most wants to face off against, Majors responded, “I think we have to start with Thor,” hinting at what may be coming on that front in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
Additionally, the character Majors plays has his sights set on the Asgardian monster thanks to the most recent Ant-Man 3 trailer.
Ant-Man 3 Makes Reference to Thor
An exchange between Scott Lang, Cassie Lang, and Kang the Conqueror is highlighted in a recent footage from Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania that Marvel Studios released.
In keeping with previous previews, Jonathan Majors enters the scene with his complete mask over his face and pulling it back as he begins to describe Scott as a “interesting man.”
Kang asks Scott if Ant-Man is an Avenger that he’s murdered before, and Cassie, who is watching her father converse with the movie’s main antagonist, reveals the complete context:
Kang: “You’re an interesting man, Scott Lang.”
Ant-Man: “Um, I don’t know who you are, but you’ve made a big mistake, ok? I’m an Avenger, and I’ve called the other Avengers.”
Kang: “You’re an Avenger? Have I killed you before?”
Ant-Man: “What?”
Kang: “They all blur together after a while.”
Scott then jokes that Kang might mistake him for Thor because of their “similar body types:” when Kang asks him if he’s the Avenger “with the hammer”
Kang: “You’re not the one with the hammer?”
Ant-Man: “No, that’s Thor. We get confused a lot, similar body types. Who are you?”
Eventually, Kang admits to Scott that he has “lost a lot of time,” and makes the following agreement with him so that they can support one another in achieving his objectives:
Kang: “Just a man who’s lost a lot of time, like you. But we can help each other with that.”
Ant-Man 3 Features Numerous Avengers References
After his final appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder in 2022, Chris Hemsworth has continued to be one of the MCU’s performers with the longest run. And given Kang’s reputation for appearing everywhere throughout space and time, it should come as no surprise that one of the first Avengers that springs to mind for him when he thinks of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes is Thor.
Paul Rudd also gets a chance to showcase a little bit of his comedic chops in this clip when he compares Scott Lang’s body to one of the best in all of Hollywood, not just the MCU. Even while Rudd, who was awarded People’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2021, isn’t a slouch either in that sense, Hemsworth has emerged as a legend because of how much his physical excellence has been praised throughout the years.
As Scott Lang discovers how vast the Multiverse is, there should be many more Avengers references in Ant-Man 3. And even though it’s unlikely that Thor will appear, sooner or later, the God of Thunder will undoubtedly have his day in court against the MCU’s latest victor.
On February 17, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania makes its cinematic debut.
