For the first time since Thor: Love and Thunder hit theatres, Chris Hemsworth responded to one of the post-credits sequences.
In the Thor: Love and Thunder mid-credits stinger, Russell Crowe‘s Zeus was seen to be alive after being struck by Thor with Thunderbolt, an enchanted lightning bolt that is Zeus’ preferred weapon.
Zeus lamented in the scenario that humans were not paying enough attention to gods and were instead worshipping superheroes in their place. The character of Hercules, who is played by actor Brett Goldstein in the MCU, was later revealed to be Zeus’ son for the first time. The scene then cut back to the credits with a hint that Hercules and Thor will unavoidably battle in a later episode.
Hemsworth, who has frequently discussed Love and Thunder in public, has never before brought up the scene or the potential for a future Thor vs. Hercules fight.
Chris Hemsworth’s Lighthearted Reaction to Hercules Actor
The actor who played Hercules in Thor: Love and Thunder’s mid-credits scene, Brett Goldstein, recently made an appearance on The Late Show and discussed his cameo in the MCU movie.
Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor, reacted to Goldstein’s late-night performance by making fun of the movie on Twitter and instructing Goldstein to make amends to Zeus on his behalf:
“Make sure to tell Zeus I’m sorry for the whole lightning in the chest thing…”
Russell Crowe, who plays Zeus in Russell Crowe’s response to Hemsworth’s Tweet, mocked the actor by replying, “It was a lucky shot,” in a separate Tweet.
Hemsworth hasn’t previously spoken about the tease that followed the post-credits sequence, which showed Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster entering Valhalla, although he has previously discussed it in public.
Hemsworth wasn’t sure if the lines “Thor will return” were referring to himself or Portman, who played the Mighty Thor in Love and Thunder, when the screen went dark after Portman’s part.
Hemsworth previously told USA TODAY that after seeing the phrase, he paused and thought, “Wait, um, what?” before asking Portman if it was referring to her Thor or his:
“Can I be honest? I asked Natalie today, I was like, is that you or me? … That was a surprise to me. I literally said that to Natalie, ‘Are they talking about you or me?’ Because I don’t know.”
Is Hemsworth Making a Comeback as the Thunder God?
Hemsworth has often said that he hasn’t even considered the prospect of returning as the God of Thunder. He has played the role eight times on-screen, and Love and Thunder’s denouement did serve as somewhat of a fitting conclusion for the character when it became clear that Gorr the God Butcher‘s daughter is now in his charge.
The director of Love and Thunder and Thor: Ragnarok, Taika Waititi, also said at one time that he was unaware that the words “Thor will return” would appear on-screen after the credits of the movie.
One of the four surviving members of the original Avengers, Thor is a very well-liked figure. It is plausible to anticipate that he will return in some manner in the future given that he didn’t pass away in Love and Thunder.
When Earth’s Mightiest Heroes battle Kang the Conqueror in one of the forthcoming Avengers movies, it may be a while before that happens, especially if Hemsworth wants to take a sabbatical. However, Marvel Studios may have plans for Hemsworth in that scenario.
Thor: Love and Thunder is currently available to view on Disney+.
