Spider-Man 2’s PlayStation release date receives a positive update

It appears that 2023 will be the year for PlayStation 5 (PS5) gamers who want to satisfy their web-slinging need.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Miles Morales and Peter Parker

Since making its debut during PlayStation’s September 2021 presentation, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 by Insomniac Games has been given a 2023 release date.

Insomniac is back and ready to deliver fans a full-blown sequel, going larger than ever, even bringing in some Marvel Studios personnel to finish the project, following the success of Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

Fans, however, have begun to worry that Spider-Man 2 may take longer to release than was first anticipated due to the absence of updates on the project and the release of a reveal trailer that is more than a year old.

Spidey 2 will still be released in 2023.

Spider-Man and Miles Morales

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 star Yrui Lowenthal provided a positive release update, allaying fan anxiety.

The Peter Parker voice actor said to Comic Book Movie that he “still [has] got a little bit to do” on PlayStation’s most recent super-powered epic, but he assured them that he is “confident about their release date:”

“I’ve still got a little bit to do. It’s a massive game so I’m still doing a little bit of work, I know they’re confident about their release date and Insomniac has always been good about that. Obviously, I can’t really talk about the game much, but I will tell you that it’s astonishing.”

He also promoted the game, saying that he was “[he’s] so excited for [gamers] to play it:”

“I’m so excited for you to play it. They know they’ve got big shoes to fill from the last two games and they’ve done it [Laughs], I just can’t wait for people to play it.”

This most current update from Lowenthal coincides with the PlayStation’s recent inclusion of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in their advertising materials for Upcoming Games in 2023.

A brief PlayStation Store entry for the sequel in December gave rise to the impression that fresh information was about to be released, but as of this writing, nothing new has been revealed about the game.

When to Expect Spider-Man 2 from Marvel

Fans can start to get excited now that there is further proof that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will eventually launch on the PlayStation 5 in 2023.

But just when will it be made available?

Spider-Man 2 Creative Director Brian Intihar revealed in a late 2022 interview with PlayStation Blog that the game will be “ready for release next Fall,” thus a Q4 2023 release date appears to be in the cards for Insomniac’s costumed adventure.

Spider-Man 2 appears set to arrive sometime in later October, lying between Marvel’s Spider-release Man’s in late September 2018 and Miles Morales’ release with the PS5 in November 2020.

However, there seems to be a degree of confidence surrounding this Fall 2023 release date that one often doesn’t see in the gaming industry. Of course, there is always the chance the game may get delayed, something that feels virtually inevitable with video games of this day and age.

Spider-Man 2 feels like it will continue the tradition of Insomniac retaining a release date when anything definitive is stated in recent years.

There is currently no confirmed specific release date for the PS5 exclusive, only Intihar’s vague “next Fall” and a few encouraging updates from those involved.
