by Jonathan Majors, a star of the MCU, hinted to Kang the Conqueror‘s abilities in a teaser for his upcoming cameo in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
With Majors’ portrayal of Kang, which he’ll reprise in Ant-Man 3 after bringing the adversary’s first Variant, He Who Remains, to life in 2021’s Loki, Marvel Studios is poised to reveal the next major enemy in the MCU plot. And while this version of the character will be very different from his comic book counterpart in terms of skills and abilities, he still appears to live up to being the most potent antagonist in MCU history, even more so than Josh Brolin‘s Thanos.
Looking at Kang in the comics, he employs cutting-edge technology in his suit of armour rather than having any real superpowers. He can create concussive blasts out of his hands thanks to that suit, however there are probably additional abilities that haven’t been shown off yet.
But this time, Majors used the opportunity to give into further detail about his enemy’s abilities, letting fans know what to anticipate from the Multiverse Saga‘s main nemesis.
What MCU Superpowers Does Kang Possess?
Jonathan Majors, who plays Kang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, previewed the kinds of superpowers viewers would see from his character during a group interview with the actors of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, which was sponsored by Fandango.
Majors joked that “his pain…suffering…and discomfort” are part of what makes the villain so amazing when asked where his power comes from, claiming that “internal power is really the drive,” behind his persona:
“Where’s that power come from… Well, I mean, here’s the thing with villains… or with any character, but particularly with villains that, yes, there is the manifestation of the power, but the internal power is really the drive. And I think with Kang, something I’ve found so interesting is that his pain, and suffering, and, discomfort and, frustration with society, and the world, that is so great in him that that friction has allowed him to make himself into the supervillain that you see.”
Kang’s “internal friction,” which Majors touts as the reason why he “lives up to that title” of being the MCU’s biggest villain ever, is what gives him such force.
“It is that internal friction that gives him that power. Now, how it manifests, stay tuned. But yeah, his heartache is great and I think is so massive, he does live up to that title of being the biggest, baddest MCU villain that we’ve had.”
Kang is one of the MCU’s most deliberate villains ever in terms of making decisions, according to director Peyton Reed, who also mentioned this in the official press release for Ant-Man 3: “To experience past, present, and future” at once.
“We had a lot of conversations early on about how this character would move and speak. Kang is able to experience past, present, and future at the same time. What does that look like? He conserves his energy. There’s not a wasted gesture or word, and if Kang says something, he means it.”
Majors said that the three key themes of the tale are “love, friendship, [and] legacy,” and that Ant-Man 3 focuses on each character’s “relationship to time as human beings.”
“i think the film is ultimately about our relationship to time as human beings and how time plays within our relationships. Love, friendship, legacy: that’s what the story is about and every character from Hank to Janet to Scott—all of us are touched by that and deal with the threat or promise of time in a different way.”
Kang’s Internal Power Is the Motive for the Villainous Story
While Kang’s strength has only been partially shown to the public, more of it was revealed in the trailer that was exclusively unveiled at the D23 Fan Expo. However, Kang’s true power appears to originate from inside.
This carries on a moving trend for MCU villains, especially in light of Thanos’ revelation of his own dark reasons for eradicating half the universe. However, Kang’s personal battles might prove to be more riskier than anything the MCU has ever witnessed.
The ability of Kang to live in the past, present, and future concurrently is in part owing to the fact that he will be divided into an apparently infinite number of Variants that exist throughout time and space. The anguish he has endured is part of what makes him so intent on attaining his objectives, yet this type of strength is also guaranteed to make him irrational in some way when he embarks on his journey for Multiversal conquest.
In Ant-Man 3, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said that he’ll utilise Scott Lang to get his Time Chair back in working order as his first step in carrying out his mission. This will give him the freedom to move around in space and time as he pleases, allowing him to communicate with his Variants and develop his strategy for completely bending the Multiverse to his will.
After that, only time will tell how his internal desire emerges into sheer aggression with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars on the coming.
On February 17, the motion picture Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania will be released.
