In the follow-up to the 2018 film Black Panther, Letitia Wright’s Shuri assumed the role of the Black Panther, while Tenoch Huerta made his MCU debut as Namor.
During the course of the movie, the two characters appeared together onscreen a fair lot. Their scenes together varied from Namor providing a tour of Talokan to a titanic duel at the film’s conclusion.
The two, however, appear to have been meant to subtly display some passion for one another at various moments in the movie, as it appears that this was the initial plan.
Cut Shuri and Namor’s Relationship
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s official screenplay claims that Namor and Shuri’s romance was initially depicted in several instances throughout the movie.
The moment where Namor welcomes Shuri inside his Memorabilia Hut before bringing her into Talokan is one of the script’s most noteworthy passages. According to the screenplay, Shuri’s grin “charmed” Namor.
Shuri discovers a PLANT coming out of the water that has a blue colour and like the Weber Azul. She is pushed toward Namor by Namora. He is charmed by Shuri’s grin.
NAMOR: “Princess, you are secure here. While you are under my care, I promise that nothing bad will happen to you.
They exchanged a “interested” glance when Shuri requested that Namor let Riri depart rather than retain her in the script.
Namor looks at Shuri. They look at you with interest.
The characters also interacted when Namor really brought Shuri to the city where his people resided. The screenplay says Namor was “smitten as they (swam) off” because she was in awe of the beauty of the undersea society.
Shuri turns to face an emotional Namor.

As Riri looks on, Namor grinned, smitten, and they swam away.
Riri questioned Shuri about their time together once Namor and Shuri had returned. Shuri gave Riri a “look” when she stated to her, “It seemed like you guys were floating off on a date.”
The Production Designer, who claimed through Twitter that there was “curiosity” between them but “never any sequences” that would constitute “physical closeness,” emphasised the fact that these sessions appear to have never been recorded.
This was in response to a statement made by Michael P. Shawver, the editor of Wakanda Forever, who claimed that the relationship between Shuri and Namor had been cut from the movie.
Why Wasn’t There a Love Story in Wakanda Forever?
In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Shuri and Namor appeared to have a closer bond, as many fans have noted in the past. The script now demonstrates that it was initially intended to be more prominent than it really was in the finished product.
In the end, Wakanda Forever was a love letter to Chadwick Boseman because a significant portion of the movie dealt with the characters’ grief over T’Challa’s passing. The director, Ryan Coogler, may have felt that adding a love story to the storyline would have been too much given how emotionally heavy this made several scenes in the film.
It’s also conceivable that Marvel Studios is keeping Shuri and/or Namor alive so they may develop love relationships with other characters. When Sue Storm from the Fantastic Four is introduced into the MCU, many fans have voiced a desire for Namor to be with her.
