While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has frequently hired well-known actors and actresses, it has also had success in the past in identifying unknown talent. The Russo Brothers, who had solely handled sitcoms for television before taking on two of the largest films of all time, would be the best example of this.
The director of WandaVision, Matt Shakman, who is currently in charge of Fantastic Four, would be a more modern example. Jac Schaeffer, the creator of the popular Disney+ series, was even rehired by Marvel Studios to work on two further projects.
Despite successes like those, Marvel Studios still faces difficulties with how many of its recent productions are received. This includes the 2023 picture Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, which was written by the excellent writer Jeff Loveness, who has only written for Rick and Morty and a few other films.
A recent report said that Marvel Studios could stop selecting undiscovered performers going forward.
Is Kevin Feige changing his hiring methods?
According to a recent rumour from insider Jeff Sneider, who made the claim on The Hot Mic, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige may be aiming to change the way the firm selects some of its top creatives for employment.
According to Sneider, “Feige does want to hire more established talent behind the camera.”
According to insiders who spoke to Deadline’s Justin Kroll in June 2022, Feige was expecting for more of the same with Fantastic Four “after not having to worry about” watching over Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness throughout its development.
“Kevin [Feige] doesn’t want to oversee the entire shoot, and after not having to worry about that with [Sam] Raimi, he is very game to the same outcome with [the ‘Fantastic Four”s] shoot.”
Will Marvel Studios alter its selection process for creatives?
It’s difficult to believe that Marvel Studios would be absolutely opposed to working with less well-known talent, even if the rumours about the changes are accurate. Since the beginning of the MCU, finding those kinds of creatives has been a constant; Marvel Studios wouldn’t completely disregard those possibilities.
However, it’s not difficult to imagine Marvel taking those bolder risks a little less frequently than before, particularly when it comes to its more well-known brands.
The Eternals is the first MCU film to receive a low rating on Rotten Tomatoes as a result of the company’s unconventionally creative decision to choose Chloé Zhao as the film’s director.
Many fans think that two new authors, Michael Waldron and Jeff Loveness, who both worked on poorly received MCU projects, will soon be replaced by writers with more credentials and experience.
After all, the pair are starring in separate Avengers movies, and many fans don’t think that will continue. This is especially true in the case of Loveness and The Kang Dynasty because many people did not enjoy the author’s most recent Quantumania film.
