Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, the most recent theatrical installment of the MCU, has a surprising number of deleted scenes, according to Marvel Studios.
Phase 5 of the MCU began with Ant-Man 3 in February, and its digital release on April 18 will happen just a few weeks after the threequel struggled to do well critically and commercially in theatres.
Several scenes from the film’s first set of home releases are now available for viewing. Some of these scenes were previously unknown thanks to cast and crew interviews conducted when the threequel was still playing in theatres.
Confirmed Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania Deleted Scenes
Only two deleted scenes will be included in the Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania home release, according to Disney.
The new Quantum Realm hero Veb, who is portrayed in this film by David Dastmalchian in his second MCU role, will appear in both of these scenes.
The scenario where Scott Lang is first captured by the freedom fighters and consumes the ooze that enables him to converse with them will be expanded upon.
*Drink the Ooze: Scott Lang tremblingly downs the ooze as he enters the Quantum Realm.
The other focuses on Veb’s realisation that he has holes after being shot during the decisive battle.
Veb is overjoyed to learn that he now has holes and declares, “I Have Holes.“
Given how many significant scenes that were cut by the cast and crew have already been revealed, fans weren’t prepared for just two deleted scenes to be included in Ant-Man 3’s home media release.
Before it was removed, a scene in Ant-Man 3 that featured Hope van Dyne spending time with a family almost gave Evangeline Lilly‘s real-life kid a chance to shine.
This scene, according to Jeff Loveness, was “Hope’s perspective on the Multiverse,” and it might appear again in a subsequent Avengers film:
“There was Hope’s perspective on the multiverse as well, and possibility, and things like that. So you never know what might come back around in an Avengers movie down the road, but I can’t say too much more. I’m happy with what we have, but there’s always something on the side for the three-hour Loveness cut. Maybe you’ll see it one day.”
Janet van Dyne’s abilities, which originally appeared in Ant-Man and the Wasp and ultimately confused viewers who saw them in the test screenings for Ant-Man 3: Resurrection, were another element of the film that was cut.
“Janet’s got obviously those healing properties, but I looked it as more of like, less healing, and more of like, ‘Oh, she’s got a bit of that inter-dimensionality phasing as well, and she was able to almost like stabilize Ava.’ We wrote that. It was in there, and I think it just it was just confusing the viewers in our test screenings like, ‘Wait, she has phasing powers?'”
Loveness also explored further Kang the Conqueror material that was ultimately cut, which would have further developed his past in the third Ant-Man film:
“… Lots of stuff. One in particular, there’s a little more Kang backstory that I think is probably better served for ‘Avengers.’ Where he’s going, where he’s been, all that kind of stuff.”
Will More Deleted Scenes from Ant-Man 3 Be Released?
While numerous scenes from Ant-Man 3 were cut or changed to make the plot flow more smoothly, it doesn’t seem that Marvel is planning to release many of those scenes at this time.
Unknown if this is as a result of the poor criticism Ant-Man 3 has received since its debut, but given that previous Marvel films have tended to be shorter in duration, there may not be much else to show.
David Dastmalchian told The Direct about his own background that he created for his new hero outside of what was presented on the big screen, which is far from the only Veb material fans weren’t able to view.
But given the abundance of other storylines emerging from different parts of the Multiverse Saga, it might be some time before this threequel is brought back, especially given the fact that Kang is still hiding in plain sight.
The digital release of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, which is currently playing in theaters, is scheduled for April 18th.
