A probable Tom Holland cameo in the upcoming animated epic Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was hinted to by one of the film’s producers.
Following the success of the adored first Spider-Verse movie in 2018, Across the Spider-Verse is planned to build on that popularity before setting the stage for Beyond the Spider-Verse in 2024.
While Miles Morales’ Spider-Man variations helped Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales take down the kingpin in Into the Spider-Verse, the sequel will increase the Spider-Man factor tenfold with dozens and dozens of Spider-Man variations expected to debut.
Tom Holland from the MCU, who is speculated to make an appearance in Spider-Verse 2, is one name that has come up a few times in the run-up to the movie. Holland’s web-slinger is said to meet “an animated Miles in a live-action world,” in the film, although the actor’s participation has not been officially confirmed.
A Cameo of Spider-Verse Scale
In an interview with Empire, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse producer Amy Pascal stoked the flames by making hints that Tom Holland, who plays Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, would feature in the Spider-Verse sequel.
About this, Pascal added, “[she was] not going to comment on anything around that!” But she took careful to point out that “Tom Holland does love these [Spider-Verse] movies…”
This comes after numerous hints that the actor would appear in the movie.“anything is possible in the Multiverse,” according to Christopher Miller, producer of Across the Spider-Verse.
Holland expressed his opinions on the Spider-Verse series back in 2021, saying he “love[s] them” and “want[s] to be in it:”
“Love them and I’m just waiting for the phone call… guys, call us. Put us in your movie, we want to be in it.”
He claimed that while Pascal had raised the possibility of a part in Across the Spider-Verse, “no one [had] come back to [him]” with the offer.
Does Spider-Verse 2 feature Tom Holland?
It is currently unknown whether Tom Holland will truly show up in Across the Spider-Verse (and will likely continue to be that way until the film releases).
Yet there certainly seems to be a lot of smoke in this place even though there isn’t a fire.
Insider Daniel Richtman recently hinted that the movie will make extensive references to “a certain event,” that had an impact on the Multiverse, ostensibly referring to the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
A Tom Holland presence would make sense if the animated sequel will address the Multiverse cracking that was depicted in No Way Home.
Ere Santos, the animator for Across the Spider-Verse, admitted in an exclusive interview with The Direct that a lot of the scenes in this movie will leave viewers wondering, “How the hell did they do that?” and that most of what he worked on especially was “very spoilery.”
While Santos’ remarks may not be specifically about Holland, the MCU hero making an appearance and animated characters appearing in a live-action setting both fall into the “How the hell did they do that?”Category the animator mentions.
Fans will have to wait until Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse hits theatres on June 2 to find out if Tom Holland appears in it, though.
