Yeun will eventually be taking on a role that could be vital to the future of the MCU, it was just reported. Yeun will be joining Thunderbolts’ already stellar roster.

The actor most recently appeared in the movies Minari and Nope, for which he received an Oscar nomination. Fans have speculated about who Yeun would play in the upcoming movie since it was announced that he will be joining the MCU, with many of them coming to the conclusion that it must be Sentry.

Despite the lack of an official announcement from Marvel Studios, a new development suggests that the speculations may be getting closer to reality.

Sentry Casting Rumors: Steven Yeun

Actor Steven Yeun is expected to play Sentry in the next Thunderbolts movie, according to insider @CanWeGetToast.

Yeun’s assuming the job of Sentry was the subject of rumours, but @CanWeGetToast recently stated that it is no longer “an ‘if:'”

“So it looks like it’s NOT an ‘if’.”

In his initial tweet, he expressed the wish that Yeun’s hair will become a different hue “when (Sentry) powers up.” In the initial tweet, “IF Steven Yeun” will be playing Sentry was heavily stressed.

“IF Steven Yeun is #Sentry, I hope his hair stays black and turns blonde when he powers up.”

Yeun will be compelled to essentially take on two personalities rather than simply one because the extremely powerful Sentry has an alter ego called the Void. When Robert Reynolds, the character, is in his regular frame of mind, he is a brave hero, but when the Void appears, he is as evil as they come.

The Weekly Planet podcast’s Hot Scoop or Shot of Crap segment also made reference of the latest report that Yeun will play Sentry in Thunderbolts.

James Clement, a co-host, said he “(had) a potential scoop” on Yeun’s casting from “someone at Marvel” during the episode. Although the character Yeun will be playing hasn’t been fully verified, Clement’s source claims they think it “is Sentry:

“Now, I’ve got a potential scoop here from someone, who’s been fairly reliable in the past. I spoke to somebody at Marvel – not a higher up necessarily – and this is the quote that they sent me: ‘We don’t even know who he’s playing, but my guess is Sentry, since there’s been whispers of that casting circulating a bit.’ So, he’s going to be in the Thunderbolts as Sentry, potentially… That’s what somebody’s telling me who heard from somebody else.”

Fit as Sentry by Steven Yeun

It currently appears more likely than ever that Yeun would play Sentry, but because nothing has been confirmed as of yet, it is still crucial to maintain an open mind.

Plans can change, and if there are Marvel employees who are still unsure of Yeun’s position, it is still possible that he is playing someone else.

How does Yeun fit into the role, though, given that he’ll be playing one of the MCU’s most powerful characters?

Yeun’s acting resume demonstrates his ability to portray a beloved “hero”-type character because of his portrayal of Glenn Rhee in The Walking Dead. It’s also crucial to keep in mind that Marvel Studios has one of the best reputations for casting, so if Yeun is chosen to portray a role like Sentry, he probably has what it takes to do him justice.

The movie Thunderbolts is scheduled for release on July 26, 2024.
