Although the status of an Eternals sequel’s development has not been officially announced, Eternals 2 recently received its most encouraging update in advance of its MCU debut.
Eternals, which debuted in theatres at the height of the epidemic as a new experience for MCU fans, quickly rose to the top of the list of Marvel’s most contentious standalone films. Together with Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantum of Solace, it continues to have the lowest rating of any Marvel Studios film on Rotten Tomatoes, and since its release, no official sequel plans have been announced.
The Pip the Troll actor Patton Oswalt accidentally revealed something about Eternals 2, but he swiftly refuted that assertion after admitting he had been duped by internet rumours.
Yet with so many other movies in Phases 5 and Phases 6 that have been confirmed, many are unsure if Marvel will have time to release a sequel to this film, especially in light of how long the studio is devoting to the development in order to guarantee quality.
An update on the production of Eternals 2
Eternals 2 has officially been “added to Marvel Studios’ production calendar,” according to insider KC Walsh, implying that the company is now committed to producing a sequel and that it is now in the early phases of development.
This is the most specific information on an Eternals sequel to date, which was never promised by Marvel Studios’ upper management when the original film appeared in November 2021.
How Soon Can We See Eternals 2 in Theaters?
Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) can see the apparent approval of Eternals 2 as a victory, especially in light of the difficulties that the first Eternals film faced. Even though the original MCU film has one of the lowest box office totals ever, much of that isn’t the movie’s fault. Now that the box office is starting to return to normal, Eternals 2 should have a far better chance of being a success.
Now that it appears that preparations are being made behind the scenes, the key question is when exactly the film will be shot and released.
Gilgamesh actor Don Lee’s management firm revealed that Lee had been cast in Eternals 2, which they said was “intended to be created.” As Gilgamesh died in the first film, Lee’s inclusion in the sequel isn’t definite, but that listing seemed to imply that the sequel was well underway and would begin filming later this year.
In addition to the scheduling challenges in the real world, it’s unclear how the Eternals fit into the Multiverse Saga, which served as the foundation for the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The opening of Eternals made a clear connection to the Infinity Saga by having the squad deal with the fallout from Thanos‘ Snap as they learnt about the Emergence. The squad might be helpful in Avengers: Secret Wars‘ battle against Kang the Conqueror, but Marvel might also elect to have them follow the same course as their first film and deal with the fallout from those events to launch Phase 7.
Regardless of the specifics, the MCU will be able to continue to develop its cosmic plot with the help of Eternals 2 because so many beloved heroes and antagonists will be moving their journeys along.
Disney+ is currently streaming Eternals.
