The MCU has many villains, but Josh Brolin’s Thanos and Michael B. Jordan’s Erik Killmonger have perhaps received the most acclaim.
When Majors assumes his new Marvel job and prepares to become the largest villain the Marvel Cinematic Universe has ever seen, he must battle not one but two legendary figures.
Funny thing is, Majors and Jordan are also close friends in real life. As strange as it may sound, the actor who plays Kang the Conqueror acknowledged that he has not heeded his friend’s advice about terrifying the MCU.
Kang on Following Killmonger’s Guidance
Despite the latter actor’s legendary depiction of Killmonger in Black Panther, Jonathan Majors claimed in an interview with ET Online that he and Michael B. Jordan didn’t exchange any advise regarding his major Marvel role.
Nevertheless, did Majors ever look for it? The individual himself claimed that “he didn’t” since comparing was bad for “[his] mental health:”
“No, I didn’t, and I don’t really believe in that… Every man, every artist, everyone has their own experience on it. I don’t really care what someone else’s experience is because, for me, at this level… I’m in two huge blockbusters about to hit cinemas. For me and my mental health, I can’t compare. There’s no other outcome than a good experience that I can expect.”
The actor continued by saying, “[he doesn’t] want anybody else in [his] head:” when it comes to getting advise from others.
“I don’t want to open myself up to any warnings or any trepidation, or someone else’s point of view or trauma around an event, a person, et cetera. I do my best work when I feel secure. Where I feel secure enough to be dangerous. Or I feel safe enough to be daring. I don’t want anybody else in my head.”
Early in February, Majors did hint in a different interview with ET Online that he and Jordan would still occasionally discuss their Marvel work:
“We have a very amicable relationship that’s my best buddy… We support each other on a day to day, so, if it’s Marvel it’s Marvel that day, if it’s girl troubles, it’s girl troubles that day — whatever, whatever. He’s my brother.”
Jordan himself called Majors “incredible” and claimed that he and his work are “finally getting the props that [are] due” in a 2022 interview with Collider.
“First of all, Jonathan Majors is incredible. We’re very blessed and lucky to have him be a part of this story. For me, as a director, just to have that running mate and partner made all the difference in the world. He’s extremely talented. The world is finding out, daily, how incredible this man is and the work that he does is finally getting the props that it’s due.”
Jordan went on to talk about working with Majors on Creed III, saying that it helped forge “a bond that’ll last forever,” between the actor and the director.
“Jonathan [Majors] was incredible. He showed up every day, ready to go to war and ready to work. We bonded in a way that I’ve never had an opportunity to do, and it was my first time exploring that relationship between director and actor. I really understand that now. It’s a bond that’ll last forever.
Jordan and Majors: The Dynamic Pair
Majors and Jordan are so close that it’s difficult not to wish that they were both in a Marvel Studios movie together.
It’s unfortunate that it’s unlikely that the two actors will ever appear together onscreen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s hardly implausible, though, given Kang’s proclivity for time travel and Multiverse mischief.
His point of view is undoubtedly comprehensible when it comes to Majors receiving counsel. It’s also crucial to note that playing Kang and Killmonger represent two completely distinct viewpoints.
The other is intended to be played across numerous films and television shows, eventually growing to the full Multiverse Saga as a whole. One is intended to enhance and tell a particular tale in one film.
The pair is appearing in Creed III, which opens in theatres on March 3, 2023, despite the fact that they might not share an MCU moment anytime soon.
When it comes to Majors’ upcoming performance as Kang the Conqueror, it will happen much sooner because Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is scheduled to hit theatres on February 17 later this week.
