Marvel Studios' original concept art for May Calamawy's Scarlet Scarab differed greatly from what viewers saw.
The major credit for Moon Knight goes to Oscar Isaac for bringing the Marvel Cinematic Universe's titular hero.
The MCU also introduced the world to the first Egyptian superhero. Remarkably, the figure barely borrows from the comics at all; in fact, it's entirely unique.
In the past, Calamawy expressed that it is "an honor just to be able to represent or to be Middle Eastern and shine a light on that region."
Marvel Studios Moon Knight: The Art of the Series, which demonstrates how different May Calamawy's Scarlet Scarab may have been, is currently available for fans to obtain.
The character debuted in the Moon Knight Season 1 finale, teaming up with Marc Spector, played by Oscar Isaac, to defeat Arthur Harrow.
They "wanted something that felt Super Hero," but they also wanted it to stand out and "feel different from the Moon Knight costumes," according to MCU Visual Development Supervisor Rodney Fuentebella.
Even if the connections between Moon Knight and the character are intriguing, it's easy to understand how the two may appear a bit too alike, especially given that they were both avatars of distinct gods.
Calamawy has stated that she would adore a crossover with characters like Nebula, Blade, Agatha, or even Doctor Strange.
The hero of Calamawy should return sooner rather than later. Let's hope that the much anticipated Moon Knight Season 2 happens soon.
